Galaxy S2 titanium or galaxy S3?

Galaxy S3 just came out for VM but with a $400 price tag. Amazing phone but very expensive for my taste. But the S2 titanium has dropped down to $200. I currently have the Motorola triumph so I'm very due for an upgrade. What are some ups and downs for both phones? Include rom support and such. Also will the S2 titanium run the same roms as the S2?

Though this will depend on where you live, the difference to me is LTE vs. WiMax. If you have LTE in your local area, definitely buy the S3 (or, if you want to go cheaper, the Victory).

My area doesn't have much wimax but does have some LTE. I considered the victory but the screen size is what's keeping me away.

In that case, I'd definitely go for the S3. LTE will make a huge difference when you use data -- it is so much better than 3G on Sprint/Virgin. And if your area already has some LTE, chances are the coverage area will improve over the next year.

With LTE becoming more common has wimax now become obsolete? If I go for the s2 for pricing reasons would I have to give up my hopes of having wimax in my area?
I also just compared my current phone (Motorola triumph) to the victory. I can't bring myself to make that downgrade, not for LTE alone

Its an upgrade from the Triumph from what I heard. Wimax will not be expanding any more so if it's not in your area now it never will be. They will be taking down the wimax network in 2015. I would suggest upgrading to the s3 because it should keep you future proofed for a while.

I've only ever heard of complaints and horror stories about the Triumph... But I've never owned it so I guess I'm not one to judge.

Oh definitely. I'm not saying it was the super phone at all, I have plenty of horror stories and complaints about it, but root and roms helped dull those a bit. which is why I'm looking into a new phone.

Oh, that makes sense. I'm using the S2 titanium version right now (there's no difference between the white and titanium) and its been a good phone so far. The wimax is pretty bad though and I'm going to upgrade to the S3 soon. I advise you also go for the S3 unless tight on cash because the S2 is still very good in many respects.

I'd say go with the s3 unless you don't have the cash and can't wait. I have the s2 and it's a good phone, definitely an upgrade; but if you have the means there's no reason to get the s2 over the s3.

If you aren't in a hurry, I'm sure it won't be more than a few months before there are sales on the s3. I got my s2 for $199 during a 1-day sale on the VMUS website months before the price was dropped to what it is now.

I'm guessing the S3 will have a great price during VM's annual Black Friday/Cyber Monday sale in November.

If I got an S3 now, I'd be about 3 months without 4G. Currently, my market has pretty good Wimax saturation. LTE isn't on yet, but it will be by the end of 3rd Quarter.

I may keep my EVO V for another 3 months, and hope for a sale on the S3 :D

If you keep it three more months, I'd probably wait and see what Virgin does for their Black Friday/Cyber Monday sales. With the S3 having been available on Virgin Mobile about 6 months at that point, I have to think they will have a nice deal that weekend.

I got the white S2 and sold my Triumph ...well it is huge upgrade after the triumph brick style phone. LOL

I love the new design of the S2 and everything is good in the phone except wimax...but it doesn't bother me. If I want to download a game or an application or search for a long time..then I would use the Wi-fi option...other then that for texting or call..I use 3g/4g. The screen is bigger then the triumph.

If I were you...I would go for the S2.

Got the s2. Very very pleased with it especially after having the ancient triumph. I just couldn't justify 400$ for a phone that's already outdated and dev support for the s2 is still very strong(compared to the triumph, cant compare to other models) i don't live in a wimax area but I'm so used to 3g its just as good for me

Look, a fellow triumph veteran. :)

Since we know it was terrible you easily said S2, but if you came from the evo, you would have said S3. I would give the S3 10 months then call it EOL. Since it came in 2012 I think or late 2011.
