Help VERY poor quality sound from headphones

Where have you seen the reports about updated firmware? Do you have a link.

As I've previously mentioned, this is in part a principle thing. If I opt for a premium product I expect a premium product. The sound produced by the earphones should be at least very good. I have almost regretted not opting for the new HTC one. Sound quality on that phone seems to have been well thought through.

You can't expect everything to be perfect. Let's wait for your new set and see if it works perfectly.

Why are you so obsessed with those earbuds that come with the phone? Of course they are going to sound bad, what do you expect from such a tiny damned speaker?

If you're an audiophile, meaning someone who cares about audio quality and wants to get the best audio possible, you're not going to be using some dinky little earbuds. You're going to want to get a good quality set of headphones if you want perfectly reproduced sound.

Stop complaining, go to Amazon.co.uk (since you're in the UK), and find yourself some decent headphones worthy of being placed on your ears. Because these dinky little earbuds ain't it!

Actually to be honest, the stock earphones sound pretty decent although it cannot beat my Sony headphones. Just saying.

I do think you are overstating the need for headphones. I am an audiophile, and I have three in ear monitors - SoundMagic E10, Yamaha EPH 100, and Phonak PFE112. I also have what is possibly the best custom in ear monitor known to man, Unique Melody Miracle, which produces sound quality that you have to hear to believe. Just because the Samsung stock ear buds are poor doesn't mean everything you stick in your ear disappoints.

Not overstating anything - simply asking a question...

Well, obviously. I would just expect at minimum a listenable sound from the stock earphones. What is the point of packaging them otherwise?

If you are such an audiophile, how come you do no use your own high-end headphones?

Read above, I say that I'm not 'such an audiophile' it's just that if I buy something I expect it to work to a standard fitting the price I paid without having to spend more. The supplied headphones do not do that. When I say ooor quality sound, I mean very bad; barely useable.

Hence I posted the original question and asked for others' experiences. I am not to know that this isn't a problem with the phone. Also, I've learned that others have experienced the same or similar problem and apparantly this is a recognised fault with Samsung and there are suggestions of a firmware update to address it.

You mentioned bad sound quality, not broken headphones, right?

I did - but I was not to know if the bad quality sound was due to the headphones being faulty (broke) or simply a bug or some thing similar with the phone (not broke).

Anyway, I have a new set now as mentioned above. While the sound ain't great, it is much improved from the original set. There is a better bass sound and the crackling has disappeared. I can only assume that this is because the original set was faulty, but who knows for sure?

Previous responses elude to the phones firmware being updated anytime soon to (hopefully) enhance sound quality with low impedance headphones, which some knowledgeable people elsewhere have found the stock headphones to be.

Crackling is always faulty.

Yep, and to be fair to both T-Mobile and Samsung their support was really good. T-Mobile sent a replacement set out, no questions asked, but in between time I called Samsung support (mainly to see if there was more to it and had had other, similar queries) and they said that if I wasn't happy with the earphones T-Mobile sent they could do the same.

OK, just a quick update: I have recieved the new headphones sent by T-Mobile. They are identical to the ones that came with the phone, but they are MUCH better, not pro quality, but more than good enough.

The originals were obviously faulty; I now have bass and no crackling between tracks.

Excellent, glad to see T-Mobile dealing with the issue swiftly:D

Oh the irony! An audiophile talking about perfectly reproduced sound while listening to an mp3 on a cell phone. Priceless!

Someone may be an audiophile, but is able to adjust their standards according to circumstances. Don't forget that the dictionary definition of an audiophile is: A person having an ardent interest in stereo or high-fidelity sound reproduction. At home they may have a
