Dear Samsung,
Hi! My name is Rich and I bought a Galaxy S4 a few weeks ago. Overall it's a pretty good phone but nothing is perfect and it could be better. The weak areas revolve around where you try to hold my hand unnecessarily. Holding a new or non-technical person's hand is good customer service but a lot of your "help" is so overbearing it could be called "hinder" instead. Let me explain.

I'm a 47 year old metal head. This means I've been playing music too loud for 25 years. My hearing has taken the toll you'd expect. On top of that, I've been playing guitar (poorly) for about the same amount of time. Teenagers (when I started) + amplifiers = deafness (and noise complaints). I think you get the picture; I am experienced at loud.

So when you insist on warning me that I'm playing tunes too loud because I've raised the volume above like 4, I'd beg to differ. I know the proper volume to listen to Iron Maiden, Sabbath, Avantasia, Priest, etc. You don't. Could you stop warning me? I'm just going to hit OK and set the volume to my liking anyway. How about giving me an option to acknowledge that I've banged my head to the point where I've lost common sense and won't sue you for hearing damage. Cool?

Another thing, when I plug in my headphones and the annoying here-are-things-you-might-like-to-do-now-that-you-have-headphones-plugged-in notification pops up, why do you suggest really stupid things like Sudoku or tweaking my Pebble? How do either of those things pertain to headphones? Can I disable that help hindrance somehow?

I don't need to know my location services are on, so can I kill the notification? Yet I do like to know I'm connected to Google so can my networking icons go blue like every other Android phone on the planet?

Well I've got to go pick up Sabbath's new album (CD, whatever) so I'd better stop this now. Thanks for listening. We're Android users, just give us good defaults and the ability to tweak most everything and we'll get along just fine.

I can agree with this. Samsung sounds like my grandma always telling me to turn my metal down. Plus, the recommended shortcuts are pretty much useless.

I'm not a metal head, total opposite, I'm all about my Hip Hop, RnB, House and Dance, mainly the 1st two though, and I enjoy listening to them at full volume and what REALLY annoys me in my otherwise lovely S4 is how If I have headphones on and my phone in my pocket when I try putting up the volume either using the headphone vol. controller or the phone's, it will not up the volume until I unlock the phone and acknowledge the high vol. warning.

BTW, WRT the recommended shortcuts, whatever happened to Page Buddy? Lol. Now THAT was one very annoying feature in the S3 4.1.2 FWs, glad it didn't make it to S4.

While I fully understand your desire not to be warned, I think there is a certain irony here in that you have damaged your hearing from listening to music that is too loud.

It appears that Samsung are right and you are wrong, otherwise, you'd still be able to hear properly.

I absolutely hate the volume warning, but there is a way to disable it on the at&t version if you are rooted, and there is probably a similar way for the other versions as well. If you are on at&T, there is a a thread on xda for an app called NottachXposed which requires the Xposed Framework to be able to work, both are extremely simple to install. And it gives you a ton of customization options, most important for me was letting me get rid of the green icons in the notification bar. Here is a link to it http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2285074, again this is for at&t only, but just assuming there will be something similar for the other versions.

That's not the point. He is a grown man and wants to jam his metal at the volume he chooses. I understand the reason for the warning, but once is enough. We should be able to turn off that shit after the first time. As far as the suggestion for what to do when the headphones are plugged in, I personally like that. I agree though the suggestions should only pertain to stuff you do with the head phones on.

As much as I agree with the sentiments of the OP, I have to note that this is worlds better than the RAZR MAXX after the latest update -- there, it would give you the warning, and wouldn't let you raise the volume anyway. The repeated warnings are really annoying, but the fact that the GS4 lets me go ahead and raise the volume in violation of the warnings makes them something I can live with.

Samsung is not who you need to notify. You can start with Political Correctness and start your descent from there.

One thing I would love for Samsung to do is make the cell receiver stronger for better and more stable signal.
