Help Inserting a pause in a telephone number

Hi,
can anyone advise how to insert a *pause* in a telephone number ?.

I am using some access numbers to dial abroad, and i want to insert the a pause before the telephone number that i am calling, continues ?

a have had a google about, and some other android phones seem to confirm its the comma (,) that inserts a pause.

can anybody confirm this, who may be using this.

you are correct as far as i can tell, this method is the same that i used with my huckleberry curve. I now have the HTC Droid Incredible and since i moved my address book from the blackberry to the droid via bluetooth the contacts transferred as they were entered and the numbers that i frequently call such as calling cards or certain businesses with multiple departments or call choices such as (for english press one, para continuar en espanol oprima el dos). this is how my numbers look:

123-456-7890,,,,3,,,,4,,,,7

this is just an example. the number of commas dictate how long the delay/pause is going to be i think each comma is 2-3 seconds, just add or subtract commas until you can get the timing of your choices correct.

On the HTC desire if you pressed & held a number in call history you could select 'edit number before calling' and the phone keypad then had P and W keys. Since yesterday's system update this seems to have disappeared. You can still insert a P whn editing a number in a contact

I have a new Desire HD and have had so much conflicting advice on how to insert a pause between access and contact number that I am demented.
I have credit on my T mobile account from a company providing cheap international calls. I have to dial an access code wait for prompt then enter contact number. The company providing the service say that to save time I can direct dial by storing both numbers with a pause between them. They have instruction on how to do this on some phones but not the Desire HD. I phoned HTC, T mobile and call company, none of them could tell me how to insert a pause on my phone.
Googling and this forum suggest inserting a comma or # orthe letterp in the contacts number keyboard.
As I have quite a few numbers to set up I need to know the correct procedure before I start.
Please, please, please, if you have cracked this problem and have the definitive answer, let me in on it.

My desire, which has a custom AOSP (Vanilla android rom) when in dialler, if I press menu, I have an "add 2 second pause" option. Obviously this is teh android dialler not the htc one, but importantly I noted that on screen, this inserts a comma in the number. I suggest that a comma = 2 second pause.

Are you using 1 comma or 3?
Besides, the question here was to insert a pause in a number dialing sequence, and that works fine with 1 comma.

I insert 2 or 3 commas. 1 comma often doesn't make a pause long enough for the remote answering system to start listening for the key tones.

I just tried 1 comma and the contact list still merges the two numbers into one. Is there a limitation on how many phone number characters get compared to each other? When I use calling cards the format is like <calling card number>,<dest number> e.g.:
Ph1: 555-123-4567,011 44 0 1733 232030
Ph2: 555-123-4567,011 44 0 1733 267096

Try the above, it merges the two numbers into one as soon as you are done editing them.

This is how I input and see a contact number with a pause (using fictive numbers):
the fist 2 call go via a VOIP call center, and the other 2 are direct destination numbers.

Contact ABC:
Call Home: +5551234567,00114401733232030#
Call Mobile: +5551234567,0114401733267096#
Call Other: 00114401733232030
Call Other: 0114401733267096

Note, that the "#" is a required input for the numbers I dial.
All I have to do is press one of those contact numbers, and the rest (pause, pound sign) are implemented in the dial process automatically.

Very odd. I just put the numbers exactly as you wrote in your post above (copy-n-paste) and the stock contact list merges them into one. I can't even select a number it simply assumes there is only one number and proceeds dialing it. Not sure maybe your OS version is different? Mine is 2.3.4. I didn't have this problem with 2.2.x versions.

I think I found a workaround. Inserting "+" sign (which doesn't seem to affect dialing) at different positions forces contact manager to treat those phone numbers as different:
Ph1: 5551234567,0114401733232030
Ph2: 555+1234567,0114401733267096
Ph3: 555123+4567,0114401733254321

While dialing a number (as in many other contexts) you can press and hold the menu key to invoke the full alpha-numeric keyboard, then optionally switch to the numeric one as usual (the 12# button).
Comma or p works as expected in the dialled number (pause), as does ; or w to wait indefinitely for user clearance to proceed.
To place the call press Return, or close the keyboard with the bottom left button to return to the dial pad.

A different issue is that the tones emitted sound like they have too short (below spec, close to zero?) pause between them (the tones themselves unnecessarily long).

I'm using HTC Desire with Android 2.2.

Anyone else been annoyed by the fact that pointing in the middle of the number being edited dials it rather than places the cursor? Arrgh..

Hey folks, thanks for all the advice about the commas. When I call my wife's work, I have to enter "1" to dial and extension number and then dial her extension number. I had tried putting in a comma before to make the whole sequence automatic, but the pause must have been too short for the system to recognize because it never worked. Two commas before each numeric entry did the trick. So, her work number now looks like this in my contact list: "123-456-7890,,1,,234", and it works just fine. I am using android 2.2 OS on a LG Optimus V phone.

With my old Blackberry, you were able to click on the link and it automatically dialed the number, paused and then put in the passcode. With my brandy new Galaxy s4, it shows the number like this: 1-888-222-333,,,12345678 with all the numbers showing as a hyperlink except the third comma. That third comma basically separates the dial in number from the passcode.

For conference calls that aren't mine, or are repetitive where I can store the number in contacts, I can click on the dial in number, but have to write down the passcode. Being on the road and having to pull over to do this is crazy!

There has to be a fix for this. Please help!
