I was wondering if there is a way to be able to access the phone when the screen is off without hitting the power button on top? It'd be nice not to have to stretch all the way up there. Maybe a double tap of the "home" button could turn the screen on? Any sort of solution for that?

Yes, check out PROXIMITY SCREEN OFF in the GOOGLE PLAY STORE.

There are other similar apps that can accomplish this as well.

No problem.It'd be cool for HTC to bake this feature directly into the SENSE 5 U/I.
IMHO,for the most part,gesture controls are more gimmick than function/utility.However,this would be the exception.

no additional user settings in the stock configuration.. its basically an EQ curve that is applied. its just ON or OFF.

I cannot find the Alarm clock on this phone? Could someone please help me?

Out of the box, my One had the HTC weather widget on the BlinkFeed screen (as per their promo pictures). I currently don't use the BlinkFeed screen so have put the widget on my new home screen.
If you tap the time/date area it opens a new swipe screen with :-

World Clock : Alarm : Stopwatch : Timer

If you tap the weather area it opens a new swipe screen with :-

Now : Hourly (Next 24 hours) : Forecast (Next 7 days)

my keyboard went to Swype and for the life of me I can't find how to set back the sense keyboard. I'm in keyboard and settings and I can't find where to change it back. This is driving me nuts lol

up at the top left there is a icon that looks like a keyboard,

pull down the notification and you should see "choose input method".

Ok guys hi I'm new to android, just pick up an HTC One and got a few questions.

I use A.T..T data only on my previously iPhone 5, so now its data only only on HTC One. I use talkatone to make calls and sms through GoogleVoice.

Q1: I can't seem to figure out how to HIDE the little phone picture in the top left notifications when talkatone is running. I still want to get talkatone notifications, I just dont want a constant one up there letting me know that app is running. Tired talkatone settings, nothing there

Q2: Can't seem to find ANYWHERE how to turn on battery %. I can do it on the top left by installing 3rd party apps, but I want it to show % on the right by the battery if possible. Had an android phone a long time ago and it was possible back then so why now now in android 4?

Q3: On HTC one when you hit the HOME button (bottom right button) twice it takes you to like tiles that show you all the recent apps, ok great I like that, but when you flip the app OFF the screen it doesn't turn them OFF to save on RAM. Why would they not make it turn the app OFF? Anyways, is it possible to terminate/shut off the app when you remove them from there?

Its annoying having to go to settings to kill apps all the time, it ******* ******ed in fact.

Q1 not too sure as Talkatone won't run on my Samsung phone (not compatible/stupid Play store) but i do use a similar app known as GrooveIP which does the same thing. i think that is by-design to keep Android from killing it later on so it allows you to receive calls without missing any (system persistent setting). the only way to get rid of it in my case is to logout and exit the app which of course disables its ability to make/receive calls through it.

Q2 i usually do the opposite. leaving percentage on makes me nervous as it drops so fast i worry about how long i'll go. the battery meter is less unnerving without it so i wait until it turns red or goes to 1/3 filled. much better. the ROM i'm currently running has percentage which i hate but i like the style of it. (all of them including signal show as aircraft engine management style circle gauges like the Boeing PFDs which is cool) i think if lacking the setting it would require rooting (jailbreaking) and hacking to enable through a custom battery gauge. most Android versions after 4.0 have a setting under settings--Display to do that though. may also be under Dev options

Q3: Android is designed to hog RAM. apps don't always close and only do so when the memory is required by another app. sometimes they do close (but show up as running because their notification services stay active) if you hit 'back' and almost always stay minimized if hitting home. some offer a setting to exit if you hit the menu button. Android manages memory far differently than iOS or Windows. it takes getting used to. i can guarantee you won't run out of RAM on an HTC One. Android uses memory and prefers to fill it so apps launch faster and it takes a few days to memorize your pattern, which apps you use often, etc. Android is only designed to kill apps or close them when memory is required by another app. if you launch Angry Birds, Android likely kills a few backgrounded apps to make room for the game, and since the game is so big, it often exits normally if you click 'back.' some apps run as persistant if they perform phone or messaging features and display a constant icon in the notification area to indicate that and provide quick access later if in another app. unlike the iPhone, Android doesn't have the benefit of the badge alerts and while another launcher can include a rudimentary badge alert feature, it isn't as good as iOS and i always hated the cluttered-with-icons notification bar in Android, but since i cannot do anything about it i just live with it and whenever possible hide the status bar.

Not sure about HTC, but on Samsung devices you go into the display options and there is an option to enable battery percentage otherwise it's root and use custom Rom or third party app!

Yes nothing under settings display for battery %, nothing under development either. Q2: I already rooted the phone so does it mean I have to get a whole custom ROM now just to have the battery % show? In that case it might just be easier to show the % though an 3rd party app.

Q3: And ok, I guess I just always though the more stuff you have taking up RAM memory the faster the battery would drain but I'm not really even sure if thats the case.

And I agree with you, I def wish I had badges like in iOS to show me when something new came to that app. I do like the notification bar but sometimes its full so you forget some important stuff that should have been answers sooner.

What launches are you talking about that has a work around badges notification for android?

Oh and perhaps the worst thing about this phone: HTC One capacitive home and back buttons only light up when its very very VERY dark, so when it dark but not dark enough you cant see the buttons. There is no option ANYWHERE to adjust the light sensitivity at which they turn on. I search and soooo far I haven't found anything. I did find an app the when rooted you can turn those lights on, but the app is dumb because it keeps the light ON even when then I lock the phone so just wasting battery lol

I wish I could figure out what controls the sensitivity, there is got to be a files some place that can be tweeked to fix this and make them turn on earlier

You might be able to find battery percentage In Settings > Display on your device. I know Samsung devices have this you might too, but if not you could root like taylor said. Don't know about your first question as I don't use that app.
What nickdalzell said pretty much sums it up. Don't ever use app killers though as it can make your battery life worse and just isn't good for the device.

The stock software as of right now does not support a battery percentage out of the box. THe update to Android 4.2 that HTC is working on does.

If you want a software overlay, GSAM battery monitor monitors your battery very well and also has the option to both display battery level in the status bar, or to overlay the stock battery with a percentage.

If it has been awhile (greater than 5 minutes) since the last time I typed anything on my phone when I select a spot to input text the voice input comes up and I have to pause it and then press a button to trigger the keyboard to come up. I have no idea what is suddenly causing this and can not think of anything I may have changed to cause it. I have looked through every setting I can think of and nothing seems to correct the issue. Does anyone have any idea what else to try?

Go Launcher EX has a 'Go Launcher Notification' plugin that enables badges for apps such as Facebook, missed calls and texts, emails through the Gmail app, and Google Voice. unfortunately, it requires that an icon still displays in the notification area and that is always so unnecessarily cluttered. i often turn it off in the launcher preferences somewhere. i now use TSF Shell, a very expensive launcher but far more neat to look at and use than Go, but it only supports app badges with Gmail only. no other app other than missed calls/texts. i have rooted mine and turned off any icons that display in the notification area except vital stuff like battery, signal, wifi status and free RAM (i monitor it as my phone has very little and if it goes over a certain percentage used it crashes). the badges still work without the icons up top in TSF shell.

i think Samsung's Touchwiz launcher that should have come with most Samsung phones, and perhaps HTC's Sense would to, supports some badges, but i forget how i enabled them in Touchwiz, and i haven't used Sense yet.

Rom Toolbox Pro is the app to get if you want a custom battery gauge. it doesn't require flashing a ROM. but as with anything root, i recommend backing up everything first!

Hello everyone, I've owned an HTC One for just about a week now and have a few random questions I was wondering if anyone could answer for me.
Overall I'm very satisfied with my purchase and I've been getting great battery life but I noticed that when I double click the Home button and the multitask screen comes up it always shows programs I thought I already quit earlier and they won't disappear until I swipe them away. I was wondering, do they actually stay active in the background until swiped away or is there more to it? And if they are indeed still active in the background then is there a way to properly close these applications that I'm now aware of? (I usually just hit Back until it exits the app).
Also, is there a way to either get rid of Blinkfeed or just make sure it doesn't eat up my limited monthly bandwidth? And is there a way of removing my Facebook feed from the default HTC Gallery? It's a nice gallery but all the Facebook crap just clutters it up and I'm really not interested in all of it. I use a different one for the time being but I'd like to use the stock one if possible.

By default, Blinkfeed is the home screen. You do have the option to change the home screen to one of the other screens.

so there. Rooting will rid you of the screen or you can do what EM suggested or live with the blinkfeed page being there.

And is there a way of removing my Facebook feed from the default HTC Gallery?

I do a lot of Craiglist shopping and all my other androids when you clicked on a phone number someone posted on the site, the options of calling or text would appear, but this phone you can scan before calling or call the number...how can change it for text to appear instead of always copying and pasting?

2. Also on other androids you would type a number in and then have the option to text or call...when I type a number all I can do is call...is the only way to text someone is to always click on the text menu?

2. Long press on the contact and you will get a menu, from there you can send a text. Also you can press on the small icon on the left to open the contact, and then press on the send text icon.

I been getting log in error pop on my mail app on my One phone using the Yahoo account.

It is not my password problem. Most of the them it just doesn't work.

Did you have it on yours?

I am now using the Yahoo app instead of my phone mail app.

I never had any issues using the stock mail app with yahoo.

I am, however, using the yahoo app as its much more robust. Plus it has push notification whereas stock mail app doesn't for yahoo.
