Hello,

I have taken the plunge to something different...needed a change!

Please forgive me for my silly noob questions, but there are a few things i would really like to know how to do....

1. Can I just use 1 mail app for my GMail, Exchange and POP?

2. Is there any way to have the Nexus One's Speech to Text feature? (Text Messages etc)

3. Due to Orange hacking around with the firmware, does anyone know where I could get a generic HTC Desire OS from (step by step would be awesome...would even pay someone to do it!!!)?

4. What mac sync software do you use? I am using doubleTwist, but cannot figure out how to sync photos and movies onto the desire...am i being special??

I would really appreciate some guidance with this, I was big into my Apple products, MobileMe...the whole hog, so really hope I haven't made a mistake switching!

Thanks

1. Not sure i thought the native Mail app could do that.

2. Yes there are a few ways released now all over these and XDA's forums.

3. Yes you need to create a Goldcard from an SD card and download ageneric rom and flash it. I did that to my T-Mobile rom. Loads of info on XDA Developer forums. Desire - Android Developer section.

4. Not a clue.

Lol - I am just afraid of "bricking it". I will have a look over there, but if you have any links handy, would appreciate any guidance.

Thanks. :)

Understandable but i think it's 99% impossible to brick it. As long as you let the thing complete.

Use this guide to make an SD card into a goldcard.

But when you get to step 19...It has a Tattoo rom...here you need to download the Generic Desire rom and just start that from Windows instead.

Ok - Great!

Just one last question for you rooting folks...is the ROM at the URL have all the same features the desire should have but without the Orange branding and does gtalk work?

Thanks folks - can't wait to enjoy the desire the way it should be!

Yes it has all the same features, it's just not UGLY. Not used Gtalk but it's still on there i know that much.

I have a t mobile phone. Apart from quicker updates, what benefits will I get for going generic?

Cheers :)

Not a lot really as T-Mobile chose to not brand their handsets too much. I'm convinced my battery life is slightly improved and the headphones volume is ever so slightly louder. The louder volume has been confirmed by a few people.
