Root questions about n1 and root when considering droid incredible

So I bought an N1 on T-mobile a while back and was very impressed. I loved the phone! Great form factor, fast, great screen etc. I just couldn't live with T-mobile. I need verizon to have any signal where I work.

This brings me to my dillema. I've been waiting for the incredible but now that its out i'm a little underwhelmed. It has a smaller battery, I'm not liking the form factor as it looks like a brick and I'm disappointed to hear how the internal 8 gig is causing problems for some software.

Also I really want the ability to tether and I'll likely be rooting my phone in order to do so.

I'd still be very interested in the N1 if it came out for verizon. I don't mind the less mp camera. I would be just as happy with the trackball and I am perfectly content to get a sd card instead of interare nal memory.

My question is whether we'll have a good stable 2.1 sense for the N1 that we could port from the incredible.

Any idea when google would be releasing the phone?

are there any other advantages to the incredible that i'm not seeing?

Also with root with some JIT enabled wasn't the incredible getting super fast?

Huh, interesting. I'm behind, so I'm curious--what problems is the internal 8 GB causing?

Why not just flash the Desire ROM? The Desire and the N1 have much more in common than the Incredible and the N1.

You... will be hard-pressed to find JIT-enabled ROMs for current-gen Android phones. For the N1 at least, JIT still hasn't been perfected yet; try it on any ROM and your phone kind of dies after a bit. As in, far as I know, force-close loop.

IMHO, I am not sure why you are moving away from the Nexus - the Incredible (nice phone as it is) isn't THAT MUCH of a leap forwards.....my personal view of course.

Also, don't bank on the Incredible being rooted any time soon, as I know that HTC have been getting nasty by putting additional security into the radio file of the Desire, to prevent full rooting being achieved. Maybe a higher risk of bricking the phone, unless a smooth method can be created by the devs.

I do not think I will be replacing my Nexus for at least a year maybe 18 months, as it will be some time before the next BIG leap forward phone appears - maybe 4G in the UK but we don't even have networks in place at the moment.

I think as well, that the Incredible should be able to tether out of the box - certainly, my old Hero could do & I guess my wife's Desire can do as well. Think it is built into Sense but I could be wrong.

Finally, having tried my wife's Desire (with optical trackpad] & the Nexus's trackball, I prefer the latter.......for better sensitivity in use & glowing colour notifications.

OP, the only reason I'd move away from the N1 to the Incredible is the touch screen sensor (maXTouch v. Clearpad2000), love SenseUI, and/or really need the 8mp camera.

Other than that, the Nexus One has the advantage of somewhat sooner updates, a larger community to back it up (root), and the dual mics. If you wait long enough SenseUI may possibly be fully rooted into the phone. It's a gamble, but if the touch screen sensor was fixed--I'd take that bet.

Maybe in a few days we might hear from HTC that they're placing the CDMA version of the Nexus One with the maXTouch sensor so things would be more balanced between the two phones.

1. Nothing really. The only thing is that it cannot be used for apps; it is as good as a built-in microSD card at the moment... to my disappointment.

2. The Desire ROM hasn't been "grafted" onto the N1 perfectly yet. A lot of reports say that it's not 100% there; given the back up from the community, it should be a matter of time.

Heh, "soon" was one of my criteria as well, so I pre-ordered the DI yesterday.
