Does anyone know how to root?

My question is do you really need it rooted? Personally I don't root my device. I have no desire to overclock my CPUs ever, and if your thinking of it as jailbreaking on an iPhone to get free apps, there's piracy galore on android (not a good thing, I'm all for supporting the devs). And if you want your homescreen modified, you can always get a new launcher.

Imo, the one good reason for rooting is for upgrades. Other than this its just a chance to learn how to do it, which is usually just connecting your phone to pc with USB debugging and an app running on the pc... Pretty boring.. but say your on GB and you want JB, and your provider doesn't offer it for your phone, you can still force it on there.

I hope this helps, I protest rooting for reasons other than upgrades and learning purposes. (Of course this is only imo, ik you can do plenty with a rooted device, but I don't recommend overclocking especially, heats up the phone and burns it out before its lifespan should be. Also makes the battery die quicker.)

The biggest advantage for a fully rooted device in my eyes is the ability to make a nandroid backup. Something gets borked, restore a nandroid. Flash a bad file, restore a nandroid. Its really awesome to be able to make a 100% back up everything. Afaik unrooted devices don't have this capability.

Plus rooting puts you in full control over your device.

As far as the tablet in question is concerned, I'm not experienced with this device. I'll look and see what I can find. :)

About the warranty, under European Union law (according to wikipedia anyway) it can only void your warranty if the manufacturer can prove that rooting (or modifications you made with root access) caused the fault. Id love to know about anyone who has tested it though and id love if it could be applied to the rest of the world

P.s, to test the theory, i mailed samsung about the display burn-in after only a year into my warranty but told them straight that the phone is rooted and running non-samsung firmware and they replied saying that because the device had been "tampered" with, the warranty would be void.
Id guess someone would have to take a stance and pay for a lawyer to make a test case of it that could be quoted to them. Id love to hear if someone already has
Gona actualy start a thread about that peeps...

I had to root my cheap Precedent to get better performance and make my SD card partitioned to use as internal storage if I didn't want to live with the limit of 80mb of storage! I also removed the stupid crash and app not responding notices too. Also just rooted and ROM flashed my Galaxy Tab to free myself of TouchWiz-induced lag. Root is cheaper than buying a new phone to get some of the features. In fact it costs nothing
