Help [VIRGIN MOBILE] SD cards

I want this thread to be limited to virgin mobile users.

Has anyone experienced any issues with sd cards? Issues as discussed here?: http://androidforums.com/samsung-galaxy-s3/654417-samsung-galaxy-s3-kills-sd-cards.html

Just curious before I purchase the device.

I bought a 64gb class 10 when I bought the phone and had no issues. The phone read the card as soon is I put it in.

I've used my SanDisk 32 gig in my og evo, evo v, and now my s3 without any issues. That being said, its only been a few days since I put it in the s3.
I must say, it feels good to not use another htc phone. I miss a few things, but Samsung has their act together.

Yeah I've always preferred Samsung phones over HTC.

There are just numerous topics throughout the internet about the S3 ruining sd cards so I'm hoping the issue was fixed before this phone was manufactured

I plugged my S3 into my PC for the first time today. It's kinda weird and not what I expected. The SD card doesn't show up as a drive in Windows Explorer. Instead, the S3 shows up as a device, and the SD card shows up as a drive on that device. It's hard to explain...and I prefer the older way where the SD card was just seen as a removable drive, and the phone was nothing more than a card reader. Now it's like a device with two drives (internal and external) and windows doesn't seem to have an "eject" option for it so I assume I can unplug it anytime without stopping the drive...we'll see soon enough.

Yes. The galaxy s2 and the victory did that. They mount as a device and then you have the option of "phone" or "card".

I have somewhat of a similar question. I know for most Android phones the SD mount is mnt/sdcard-> but on the S3 it's storage/extSDcard-> and there is another file on the phone under storage called /sdcard0 and I assume that is the internal memory. So my question is that some apps don't let you change directories and by default they go to the internal sdcard0 so is there a work around for this?

Yes. The galaxy s2 and the victory did that. They mount as a device and then you have the option of "phone" or "card".

I don't particularly like that. I noticed that when transferring files, I can't browse the sd card. I get a "busy" error until the folder is finished copying.
I also keep a folder hidden with the dot in front of the folder name. Windows can't see anything in that folder and shows it as empty.
In some ways this can be good, but bad in other ways. My workaround for now will be to rename that folder until I'm done transferring files.

Well I know they are initially recognized but there are literally hundreds of threads discussing error rates and spontaneous corruption afterwards. Don't mean to discourage anyone, I'm just curious how the device fairs.

By the way, it it's always good to back up sd contents elsewhere anyway

I had a question about the mounts and how apps interpret them. I posted on this thread earlier but no one replied lol would you be able to answer it?

I'm sure there is a work around I just haven't figured out what it is yet. I had the same problem with the galaxy victory.

Im on a different version of s3 obviously but as far as i know, samsung never admitted to there being a problem with their newest galaxys (s3, note2) destroying sd cards (though we all know they do) so i doubt if samsung put any kind of "fix" in place on their newer batches of s3.
Id suggest that everyone make regular backup of their SD if theres stuff on it that you'd be gutted to lose :beer:

I don't know if it's possible to fix but atleast you understand where I'm coming from. maybe you and g60 could take a crack at it along with a network hack lol if any team could do it it's you guys

I'm using a 16 GB card, and my phone is still new. But so far so good, no problems.

I can independently confirm that the 64gb sdxc from Sandisk works lol

Edit: Well I did have one issue. I experienced a bootloop (like the safety thing the phone does when it's frozen for too long) when it was mounting after a reboot so I had to remove it and put it back in after a battery pull. Maybe it was ths SD but I think it was just a glitch.
