video compression

I've got a hard drive full of TV programs and films and wouldn't mind popping a few onto the sd card. They're all quite big files though 6gb upwards. (vob files if I remember correctly).

What's the best free software out there to compress them down a bit that is compatible with the note 10.1? I seem to remember trying to do it in the past but gave up as It took an absolute age.

I assume that after compressing Its just a matter of dragging n dropping onto the sd card?

There are lots of programs out there that cost around $30. I started using CUCUSOFT but have found that the video is better with AIMERSOFT, Wondershare and ARCSOFT Media Converter. They can all convert to IPAD format. I use the IPAD format on my Samsung. Then the next step is do you want to remove commercials. To do that, you use MCEBUDDY - which is free. It takes a lot of experimenting to see what combination works best to remove commercials. I have an AVERMEDIA C874 to capture TV programs and it stores it in "TS" format. I use the programs supplied with the C874 to convert to a m2ts format which MCEBUDDY likes best. MCEBUDDY will then reduce the file even more into an IPAD format. Note - AIMERSOFT creates a terrible video from a "TS" input. CUCUSOFT does not always work or has poor audio when converting from a "TS". As I said, there's lots of experimenting depending on the input, the output and what else you plan to do with the files. Aimersoft and Wondershare both allow you to combine multiple inputs into a single output. All of the ones I've mentioned will allow you to queue up multiple files for conversion. I just purchased the Arcsoft product so I am still learning its pros and cons. When converting from a "TS" format, the C874 program (which was written by Arcsoft) and the ARCsoft Media Converter deliver the best video output. If you are working with something other than "TS" input, then you will have to do your own experimenting. When using the MCEBUDDY to remove commercials, I have found the C874 program works the fastest to process the TS files and the output is outstanding. I did use a different ".ini" file to help it find the commercials - check out the MCEBUDDY documentation.

It might be easy and a good converter, but it's sure not "FREE" as they imply at their download site, so if one does not want their "WATER MARK" staring them in the face you gotta PAY "Why not just tell the truth up front?.

The Miro Video Converter is really free and NO WATER MARK to stare you in the face, I think I will stick with it. and trust me it's also easy to use.

I have never seen the watermark before, must have changed recently.

I have never seen the watermark before, must have changed recently.

I downloaded their program and when I put a video file on it to convert it told me I would have a water mark in my new reduced video. If I would like to not have this water mark I could now buy the full program. this is what I found today. The download site did not tell me of this water mark item.

The program that I found handbrake in my search was a company called Wondershare http://store.wondershare.com/shop/

So I may have been directed to the non shareware handbrake program. seems there are many programs calling themselves handbrake.

Yes thats the free one, the one from wondershare is a drag and drop like Miro but the full Ver. is $59US.
