So I have been tethering my eris for a few weeks now, since the only way I was going to justify this phone was to use it for my internet connection and cancel my normal ISP. Seems to me it has continuously gotten slower and more glitchy at first I was getting some good speeds but now about 400kb is all im getting from it not to mention pages not fully loading, pics not finishing downloading and so on.. Has anyone else experienced this? Is there anything I can do to get it running fast and smooth again? Does rooting help? Thanks in advance.

What are you using to tether? EasyTether or PdaNet? or something else..
I use PdaNet, and get speeds up to(and sometimes more than) 2mb/s download and 500kb/s upload.. Have you done the *228 thing yet? maybe your not getting a very good signal for some reason.. You could also try uninstalling and reinstalling your tethering app, or check for updates :)..

Lots of options haha.. try some of those out and see what happens

Has anyone been able to get the bluetooth tethering to work using PdaNet? I am trying to get it to work on a w7 machine but haven't had any luck. I am starting to question if it is a w7. I could do a bluetooth file transfer on an XP machine of pictures and different files, but I couldn't get it to work on my w7 machine.

I am on 2.1.2.

I have also seen a quicker drain on my battery and wondered if it could be to the PdaNet app, since that is the only recent change that I still have left on my phone.

I beleive it's a windows 7 problem. I think I read somewhere else that people were having problems with pdanet and win 7. That's why I haven't tried it.

Someone said they were overseas with military and were able to play Xbox Live using tethering. A lot of things don't seem to make sense with what he said, but who am I to say he's wrong?

But I used my phone to reinstall Windows on a computer, so a lot can be done with tethering.

First, it took me some time to quote someone with Auburn in their profile, j/k.....ROLL TIDE!!

But seriously though, has anyone else heard of, or know how to tether to the XBox 360? I would LOVE to be able to do that.

On 2.1 2nd leak, I got tethering to work by downloading HTC Sync and choosing that option instead of the "Charge Only" option. It activates USB debugging and even though I never sync my phone, it allows me to connect. I use Easytether and when I get a connection error, I have to open Easytether (on the phone side), hit menu, then restart service. I can then right click the desktop icon and tell it to connect. It is a real pain and I'd love to see a better fix than this.

I'm on the 2.1 v2 as well and I'm using EasyTether. I didn't download HTC Sync...just the EasyTether software for Windows 7 32-bit. Sorry to hear that you're having a hard time with it. All I have to do is plug in my phone and right-click the icon in my sys tray on the computer and choose "connect". I don't have to change anything on my phone either except enabling USB debug the first time during setup. Followed the prompts to setup and it was pretty easy.

In theory, if you tether your phone to your pc, you can set up internet connection sharing and connect your xbox to the pc via Ethernet. I'm not sure how well it would fare playing games online, since you won't have a very consistent connection. But it should do fine with with voice chat with isn't time critical.

But I would like to try this as well, but my xbox has the rrod. Typical.

What is the *228 thing, I just installed a proxoid tether for win7/android and it works but it's pretty slow. PDANet was faster but it expired and the phone owner wants to use a free solution right now.

I've been searching the site for a while now and this thread seems to be the closest I'm going to come to finding a discussion even remotely related to what I need...I don't want to spend the next 5 years searching (there's a ton of useful info on this site LOL).

Do any of you know if an access point emulator tether has come out for the Eris yet? Although my tether works just fine for my laptop, I can't use if for my Kindle as the Kindle won't connect to an ad-hoc WIFI setup.

I found SUCCESS! Wireless tether in AP Mode (NOT ad-hoc) + WPA2 Encryption - xda-developers by samwathegreat, but it specifically states it's only for the Incredible.

...And I like the idea of WPA2 Encryption also ;)
