[Virgin Mobile] Extended Battery Discussion

Wow. I don't even have the phone yet and I already have replacement batteries, a case, and rooting all set up as far as software and things are concerned. Hahaha

Until you put the case on the phone, you don't know if you're keeping it. I'm also undecided on an extended battery. I've considered getting one that is also a case and works in conjunction with the stock battery.

Most of my spare time has been devoted to working these things out.

I saw a 7000mah battery on amazon.
For those who don't have this phone yet, I gotta say battery life is pretty bad - screen drains insanely quick(faster than my nexus by far), but most unfortunate is a significant standby drain (18% in 8 hours). Look forward to seeing what a fresh rom without bloat and perhaps a custom kernel can do. Greenify helps in the meantime, maybe got to get Tasker set up to fight the drain. Playing ingress is worse - I get about an hour of play off a full charge.

My brother has the AT&T GS3 so I just tried the case and batteries on his phone and I was happy. The batteries I bought are just replacement batteries. I usually keep a fully charged battery in my car, my wallet, in the phone and then I have a spare in the wall charger. It works out.

(Sorry for going off-topic, I'm tending to do that a lot lately)

This hasn't been my experience at all. The battery life is considerably better than what my EVO V was capable of. The standby time is remarkable. I usually see 15-40 mA of current draw while in standby. My EVO V never went below 80 mA. Also, 18% in 8 hours sounds like perhaps you're not on WiFi? Are you syncing a lot too?

As of now, I can make it a day without needing to charge...but I've been running auto-dim on the screen. I do agree that if you crank up the brightness, you will see rapid battery drain...so I plan to get an extended battery so I can run a brighter screen.

that was with wifi, no sync, nothing else, power saving mode. overnight (hit 100% shortly before bed so unplugged, found it at 82% in the morning). So not even screen on.

It's definitely better than my Evo. I was at work by 7 AM, and my phone was still running at 11 PM. Never would have happened with my Evo. And that was without JuiceDefender even running.

With an extended battery, I would be so satisfied. But I don't feel like making this phone bulky just yet, and not being able to use my regular cases.

One cool thing about phones this thin is that they remain relatively thin with extended batteries. It's noticeably thinner with a 4500mAh battery than my evo v with a 3500mAh battery.

The two camera lenses forced a certain "footprint" for the evo's battery. The s3 has a larger battery footprint plus it's so thin to begin with. I agree however about losing standard case compatibility. I happened to find it too thin when stock. It's hard to pick up off a flat surface and feels weird in my hands.

It is a bit more slippery in my hands than some other phones, but I kind of like how slim it is.

With extended batteries, I wonder how big you can go and still keep a standard case.

Battery use on mine seems pretty good. Mines been unplugged for 12h and I'm at 73%. Light to Moderate use today, actually a little more use than normal on work day for me. This same time/use on my Triumph, it would be 26% left or less. Sync on, wifi off, gps on. That combo on a Triumph it would be dead, and have been dead for an hour or three.

My phone is naked right now. I carry mine in a side pocket on my pants and I'm enjoying the lightness. True story, I use to be an adventurer like you, but then I took a Triumph to the knee.

I'll be using navigation and beat the traffic/dashboard assist pro tomorrow, so we'll see how it does then.

I am a very intensive android user so I ordered the ZeroLemon 7000mAh battery :D

I don't mind the extra thickness, in fact I prefer the better grip. I enjoyed the Trexcell 3800mAh extended battery on my Galaxy S2.

I'll let you guys know how the battery works for me if anyone is interested.
sorry for being this back from the dead, but I have been searching amazon and I cant find for the life me the zerolemon battery. I found the case easily but the battery eludes. I have found other 7000mAh batteries and wondering if those would work with zerolemon case. Also If anyone finds the ACTUALLY battery please post a Link.

I just bought mine a little over a week ago and now when I click on the item from the "My Orders" screen on Amazon it takes me to some TPU cases designed for use with the battery but not the battery itself, it's like the battery is no longer being offered. The Hyperion 7000 mAH is pretty comparable from what I hear. Just winding down my first charge on the ZeroLemon after five full days, can't wait for it to get fully "broken in" after the recommended five full cycles!

Just checked while writing this, try skipping Amazon and go to the ZeroLemon site directly, looks like it is available there.

ZeroLemon for the SGS3

Edit: Never mind, the link from ZeroLemon just takes you back to Amazon, and the page for the Rugged Case, no battery to be found. Sorry!

That's wild it's gone like that. Maybe it's temporary. I can't believe they would stop making it because I'm sure it's a popular battery seeing as how the reviews are near 100% positive.

I love mine. I've said it before but this battery is my favorite accessory to the phone. During the summer it's great to know I can go out storm chasing and have literally days of continuous use.

Hopefully the Hyperion battery will be comparable if the ZeroLemon isn't available again soon.

Yeah it's definitely weird. I am loving mine too after just a little less than a week, and the phone feels so solid without being a total brick.

Yeah the capacity is massive. Even after having this thing for almost six months, the phone still has a bit of a time calculating the percentage remaining when it gets low. It's not terribly off though. When I get to around fifty percent, the percentage remaining goes up a few points when I let it sleep for a few minutes. Then the percentage remaining goes back down a few points when I resume using it. 7000maH is alot to process :)

Most won't notice it. Besides it's kinda cool to put your phone down and it gain a few percentage points when you pick it up again lol
