Hi

I've copied my existing contacts from my sim (same sim as last phone, this was an upgrade). How do I tell the Desire to either a) Only use the phone contacts or b) Hide the sim contacts? I currently have two entries for each contact when I tap the phone button.

Thanks
JP

by phonelist you mean when you press the Phone button on the homescreen?

HTC have told us that you cannot hide contacts from this, so it will show all of them even if hidden.

You could do what I've done, and simply moved all my contacts to become google contacts, then just delete sim and phone contacts. This actually works better as all my google contacts are now synced to my gmail account and backed up forever.

yeah, just make sure you set them up to sync properly:

settings > accounts & sync > google > tick everything :p

Definitely the best way to go, made me moving from Hero to Desire seamless.

Thanks for explaining this so easily. ;)

I'm having a tiny little problem though.

I've transferred all my contacts onto my Google account & deleted every contact from my Desire. I then edited the contacts on Google. (added photos, combined contacts, etc, etc) I then synced my Desire with my Google account. It gave me an error message about too many deletes, so I clicked ignore deletes. This worked & all the contacts were synced to my phone, but with errors. Some of my contacts on the phone have missing letters, some have changed back to what they were called before, while others have moved numbers around. I checked my Google account & the same thing has happened there. Its like they have synced superbly, but both picked up strange errors?

I have altered the Google account contacts back to how they should look, but I haven't synced yet.

What, if anything am I doing wrong?

lekky, i'm in kind of trouble here :) when i go as you pointed settings > accounts & sync > google > tick everything, i ca'n't chose which one's i want to sync: calendar, contact and google mail. but i don't have ticks of which ones to sing.
when i press on any of them they start syncing
i wish i could chose not to sync contacts as by syncing them messes up my contacts :)
i know i have ticks on my galaxy so i can chose what to sync there but here i don't have, do you?

ok, i'm new to this google mail thing so bear with me

i had this same problem, of the phone showing Sim and phone contacts. So i deleted all the sim contacts, sync'd and created them as google contracts.

now, when i log into my googlemail and select contacts, there is nothing there.

where should these be?
Goto people>menu>view> select google and phone contacts select done >menu> delete>menu> select all > delete all, all your contacts in google and phone contacts will be deleted go back to beginning people>menu>view and select sim then done, when you look now you will only have 1 set of contacts to view ie messages as well

People > View > select ONLY Sim

Then People > delete ? tick them all

This will delete all the sim contacts. Then just go back to view and view the phone ones again.

Embrace google! :p

I have done exactly what you explained, my phone acts like it's deleting them all but when it's finished they are still there. I want to delete ALL of my contacts from my SIM card, and replace them with new ones.

I don't know if the type of phone I have matters, but I have the HTC Sensation.
