the WORST situation I'm in with this issue is when I'm talking on the phone and were both ready to hang up, and I press the end button but the call won't end!! The minute counter at the top keeps on going up so im wasting my minutes, and my phone is frozen so I can't hang up. .and I'm pressing end repeatedly and that pop-up comes up that says "Phone" is not responding. Would you like to close it?"and the only way to end the call is to pull the battery out and put it back in. Also when I'm typing up an email I keep on typing and when I press the keys the letters won't show up in the letter , and my phone is frozen again and my phone restarts by itself and my whole letter is gone and I have to retype it. Its not even in the drafts folder!! Its just do SLOW!!! I got the phone in early March, probably like the 4th, so I don't think its old age. Do I have to uninstall some apps or something?

First of all root your phone using my no pc method, download rom toolbox given titanium backup sucks ass compared to forementioned feature wise, upon installation use rom toolbox do a batch backup of all apps which will save them in app manger/backups sd card wise given you ever want to restore.Given rooted delete the following system apps and these only unless you actually know what your doing otherwise hellooo will loop their phone:Eco Mode,Maps,Connections Optimizer,Street View,YouTube,Mobile ID,SSA,My Account,Talk,Virgin Mobile Live, find another launcher before(keyword) installing and deleting your initial, find another browser(keyword) before deleting your initial,Google Music,Google Video,Google Books.Lmfao your phone is slow given in truth from inception all phones come stock and forementioned equates blogged down in bloatware but by deleting what I said after your rooting frees up ram simultaneously a faster phone

Lmfao your phone is slow given in truth from inception all phones come stock and forementioned equates blogged down in bloatware but by deleting what I said after your rooting frees up ram simultaneously a faster phone

But at that point you may as well just have a dumbphone, as you've removed most of the apps.

No all of my forementioned removed apps are replaced with equivalent simultaneously minimalistic versions to keep RAM use down while retaining full speed.Given your here do you know if the Chaser is v6 or v7?Asking RS currently has them on sale for 10 bucks lmfao and its pretty much an Intercept 2 just no qwerty and on GB everything else in the same especially processor speeds.Definitely getting me one either today or tomorrow

The problem is caused by the phone using too much RAM. The phone is not set-up to purge ram when it is not needed. My suggestion is to type Kyocera Rise Root in google and locate the root procedure. Once the phone is rooted the problems will be resolved. The stock firmware causes constant overheating, lag, and reboots.

Also lmfao you say peice of junk but unless you actually know what your doing any other new phones you get equivalent problems will ensue.Keep in mind I have the most actual ex out of any dev alive since everything is done on phone itself no pc at all and will say you think having cwm and a few roms will make this a better phone.Nope unless you yourself actually know your doing to actually make your own decisions and not rely on others and their work its back to square one

I've been trying to fix this issue myself with mine.. ok, i own the rise, just rooted my phone today... I've been having reaaaal bad lagging issues on this phone. Huge delays on the swype screen keyboard. Hit a letter and it takes sometimes up to five seconds to put a letter in.(weird that the slideout works almost flawless! No lag with the slide out for some reason just touch)I get this with making calls also...I'll dial a number, hit call and nothing...I'll hit it again, nothing but then i realize its just super slow in response. Takes up to twenty seconds sometimes after hitting the call for the phone to actually start calling the number. Also when receiving calls my ringtone willgo off but screen stays black sometimes for about five seconds then the caller id screen comes up and ill be swiping to answer but it will also lag in that category too. I've done kernel tweaks, cpu performance tweaks. I make sure my phone is not overloaded with running apps, cleared cache on every app and its rooted. It still does it. Any suggestions? Oh allot of non responding apps to....allot of times I'll open a app and then it will freeze n screen pops up saying app is not responding, asks if i want to wait or close the app... I'm bout ready to make this phone a hockey puck if it doesn't speed up soon.. Any suggestions on why my phone is sooooo slow and laggy?

Done that... got rid of apps using the All in one toolbox from the market.. pretty bad ass toolbox app for the rise.. rom toolbox will not delete factory installed apps for some reason. Phone still sucks. Maybe ill give it to my elderly grandmother since she's slow, shed love this phone! She be able to keep up with it..lol

When I had a Rise, I simply froze a lot of the system apps. I didn't delete them, just in case I might cause a boot loop if any of them were removed. (I did something else that caused mine to boot loop...)

For some reason, as imperfect as it is... I want to get another one just for backup... maybe I do miss the QWERTY keyboard after all! :D

Personally, if you have this phone rooted, I wouldn't tweak it too much anyway. I now have an Event, which is essentially the same phone with a bit more system RAM. I recently factory restored mine, re-rooted it, and applied the following:

-egl fix <--- this can speed up your Rise. It requires commenting out a line in the file /system/lib/egl/egl.cfg .

Change -ro to -rw to make the file writable. I used jrummy's root browser to do this.

Comment out the 0 0 android line like this: #0 0 android

Leave the other line alone. Save it. Change it back to -ro, then reboot.

-Link2SD
-Titanium backup for freezing apps that the OS itself can't (plus backup of course)
-Andromizer for Wifi @ 300ms and 3G at the highest setting

Techdad378 has some of the best recommendations for tweaking, but I'm fine with my phone as it is.

I lived with the Rise for about a year and while it had it's idiosyncracies (like random reboots for no reason that would wipe out the app icons on the home screen), rarely had any problems with it. Really enjoyed the qwerty but my new phone (a desire) is a thousand times faster with a bigger screen and way better sound.

The Rise served it's purpose, I really do only use my phone for work related stuff and some facebooking, I do use it a lot though and the Rise got the job done for the most part. The lack of memory is I believe the biggest problem so the biggest thing is to only use it for what you need to use it for and it will get the job done. Won the Rise as a prize so the price was definitely right!

Any tips? I and at least one other user have been unable to freeze anything on the Rise:
http://androidforums.com/rise-all-things-root/815133-rooted-cant-freeze-any-apps.html

I used Titanium Backup for the Rise (and now the Event). Bought the key for the Pro version. Can't see why that doesn't work. Your phones might not be properly rooted somehow, or there might be changes to the system or kernel that I'm not aware of that's causing problems for you. Had my Rise from Dec. 2012 - late Sept. 2013.

I didn't find Techdad378's recommendations, but I was looking through Adromizer after making the suggested adjustments and saw "One-Touch Optimization" under Tools. That kind of stuff never works...but I'll be darned if it didn't just fix my Rise!

Besides general slowness/lag, a very concrete and repeatable symptom for me was that Angry Birds Star Wars would load and then disappear; I've never been able to play it on the Rise. After that "One-Touch Optimization" the lag/slowness was fixed and that game ran flawlessly!

No idea what it did. No idea how long it'll stick. All I know is, this thing suddenly doesn't suck anymore.

Thanks daffyducknj and thanks Andromizer!

You cant stand the Rise yet refuse to get another phone says a lot especially when RadioShack has higher ended ones on sale from time to time.If I myself was not content about something would simply get a different phone instead of complaining about something will never change otherwise

Some of us Rise owners purchased the phone because of the kwerty, the only other phone available for virgin as of now with a kwerty is optimus slider with a higher price and older version of android. Manufacturers and carriers alike have given customers the middle finger when it comes to Android powered phones. I will always prefer a full qwerty. It was predicted that qwertys would become a thing of the past, and so far it is becoming true. They do not take the users preferences and requests into consideration as much as they should. Infact there are many issues involving lack of loyalty to customers. Including the fact that most phones are being sold with old versions of android os, and nothing is really being done about it. Many still even run on gingerbread. This still being so even after being promised updates.

So we either deal with it, tweak it ourselves, or give in and purchase new phones.

Well, I must say, since ditching VM, one nice thing about AT&T (the ONLY nice thing, really) is GSM. GSM means you can switch phones at-will, as long as it's A) AT&T or B) carrier-unlocked, which allowed me to use my HTC G1 when I temp-bricked my HTC One.

The G1 has a NICE keyboard for being a half decade old. Better than the Rise.

This is a great response to your dilemma. I briefly considered buying another Rise. But I found the Event at amazon for about $15 less than I spent on the Rise. What can we as consumers really do? The tech moves at a fast clip these days! As far as phone longevity, look at what's being done with the LG Optimus V. Some devs have gotten KitKat to run on it! That is impressive for a 3 1/2 year old phone. But these same devs have also said that this may be the last possible upgrade for the V. Still, it speaks well for these dedicated programmers and other volunteers who put in tons of dedication for the independent Android Dev community (and its fans).

Time marches on... :D
