Moving Data From Motorola to LG

I currently have a ST Motorola Defy XT and the carrier is Sprint. In one word after I purchased the phone based on being told by ST that I would have reliable service, the Sprint service in my area of Tn sucks big time! I've decided to go with a LG Optimus Exceed phone thru Verizon Prepaid. My question is will the contact data, music and photos on my internal micro sd card from my Defy XT phone be recognized by my LG Exceed phone when I plug it in or will I have to format once inserted into the Exceed phone and them try to move via blue tooth from one phone to the other? I'm not sure if the formatting is based on the Android OS or the phone manufacturers. I also know that I'm upgrading my Android OS from 2.3 with the Moto to 4.0 with the LG so that may create an issue also but I wasn't sure. Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

I moved your thread here to the Android Lounge based on the fact that I think this may not exactly be a device specific issue.

You say "internal sd card"---I am not familiar with either of those devices, but can I assume that this is saved on the internal memory?
Or is it a removeable sd card?

I would say your contact data would be saved, or should be saved, to your google account.
And as far as your pix and music, you should be able to transfer those to your new device with no issues.

That would be my opinion

You're right it's a removable sd card so am I right in assuming that the card would not be able to carry the data from one phone to the other and I will be using blue tooth for transfer of at least the photos and music files?

correct. however, if you are rooted, most of your apps and its data might be able to get restored by using titanium backup and restore it onto the new device.

My phone has an import/export option for backing up my contacts to my micro sd card which I make a habit of doing every couple of months. I wasn't aware of the Google backup of my contacts but upon looking under my settings/accounts I see the sync settings. To make sure I get the contacts downloaded when I activate my new phone what settings do I need? Is it Background data or Auto-sync that should be turned on or both? Will Google automatically ask me when setting up the Google account on my new phone if I want to download all of my contacts?

Also just for my information is the format and storage of info on the micro sd card based on the phone manufacturer or the Android OS. It was my thoughts that all sd cards (under 32gb) used in personal electronic devices would be formatted under Fat32. Will it ever be feasible that the sd card could be moved from one smartphone to another without any read issues and without having to reformat in the new phone?

I have not rooted my phone since I've only owned a smartphone for about 3 months so I didn't want to lose the warranty or take a chance on bricking the phone. Once it's out of the warranty period I will probably experiment with it. Is Titanium Backup only for use with rooted phones?

just make sure that have your contacts saved under google and not your phone. if they are saved under google and synced, then when you sign in to your new phone everything will get transferred over. there is no setting that you will need to do. it is automatic.

correct fat32 is what you will need, but it should work on your new phone without doing anything to it. unless you want to wipe it clean and start over, then make sure that you format it with fat32.

and yes tb is for root users only. it is a must have for rooted phones IMO.
