According to the Wall Street Journal, Google might make another foray into living room hardware as it's currently developing an Android powered gaming console. Since that's just not enough of a rumor bomb, the talkative "people familiar with the matter" also claim a wristwatch and followup to its "postponed" Nexus Q project are on the way. If you believe the rumors, its reason for jumping into all these categories is to beat products Apple is reportedly developing in the same categories, with at least one of them launching this fall. Finally, the leaks indicate Google's next major Android update will be "tailored to low-cost devices in developing countries," and are ready to go in a much wider variety of devices.

That could mean laptops or even appliances running the rumored Key Lime Pie flavor of Android, built by manufacturers like Samsung which is already working on a watch of its own. Also mentioned is HP, which the report goes on to claim is building laptops that run Android. Companies like Ouya, Mad Catz, Pebble and GEAK probably think Mountain View is already late to the party, but official OS-level support and heavily marketed hardware could take these segments to the next level.

Perhaps Apple could do a games console...and they could call it the Pippin 2 or the iPippin. :D

Instead of making a game console, maybe they would better convince the stupid game devs to support controllers in their games. I mean you have a HDMI out port so you could connect your tablet/phone to the TV; so with a controller you'll have an Android game console already, the only thing that's missing is the controller support in games. It's pretty frustrating to see big names in game industry how they simply ignore this (EA, for example).

On the other hand, an Android game console made by google might convince the game devs to add support for controllers. Can't be _THAT_ hard afterall...

Bluestacks of Beijing? They might do an Android based gaming console, very unlikely Google would be involved. Google doesn't really have much to do with many Android products coming from the PRC.

There's a handheld Android gaming device which seems to be quite popular produced by JXD in Shenzhen. Looks rather like a Sony PSP. This one's got absolutely nothing do with Google at all, apart from the fact it's Android.

Or possibly they do not want devs to implement controllers' support to their games so they have a market for Android Consoles? I was about to buy a MOGA today, however this is pointless as not all games are controller compatible which really sucks all this technology and power in our phones and they still dumb somehow...

Ouya didn't do very well. I don't think this will

I've been reading about how Ouya users rarely buy any game. They are only interested in free games. I'm counting days until Ouya (the company) go under.

Maybe the Google console will do better... ONLY IF Google uses its financial muscles to make exclusive deals and titles with game developers, (Ouya does not have that kind of resources.). Otherwise, the Google console will also be DOA.
