can i save an app to my computer

You could use an app like app2sd and back them up or Helium.
I would really recommend rooting and using an app like titanium back-up to back up your apps.

I use AppMonster Pro Backup Restore for that very purpose. Running in the background, it gets your permission, then creates and stores an APK file on your SD card. Then you mount your droid to your PC, find that folder and copy it to your PC.

Later, if you need an app back on your droid, just do that in reverse order. Finally, to reload it, find the APK on the AppMonster folder, tap it, choose install, permit outside sources, that’s it.

I use two methods for backing up apps to my PC.

1: Android Assistant (no root required): Manually backs up (batch or single) just the app in apk format to my internal SD. I can then copy the backup folder to my PC for safe keeping. Or, if I felt like paying extra I could use DropSync (you get one or two free and I'm already using those) to automate backups to my free DropBox account, which saves directly to my PC's hard drive.

2: Titanium Backup Pro (rooted devices only): Automated backups of user apps and their settings to my DropBox account (which also resides on my PC's hard drive).

There's another use case as well as an app being withdrawn from the market: if an update makes the app worse you can revert to the older version if you have a backup
