Getting fed up with MMS issues. Return phone?

First few days with my Sprint HTC Hero, I loved it. I still love it, but the MMS (text messaging) is driving me crazy. I couldn't get SMS (picture mail) before, turned off wifi, and it began to work.

Then I couldn't get MMS, I hard reset the phone, and it was back to normal. My MMS messed up again yesterday and I have just hard reset again.

Should I just give up and get rid of this phone? Is it Sprint or is it the Hero that's the problem here, anyone know?

I'm still within my 30 days.

Known issue.

2.1 is supposed to fix this and is slated to be released in "early May."

Ultimately it's your decision what you chose to do. Maybe see if Sprint can give you some kind of discount? Or, if you like the Hero, go demand a new hero to replace your defective unit.

You're using the stock apps?

If you're within the 30 days and it's not too much trouble, maybe get a swap for a new phone (refurbished...) If you do it via phone and they send you a new phone I think you have some time to activate the replacement and make sure all is working better before sending the original problem phone back. Check it out and see what your options are with replacement. I am assuming you purchased it from a Sprint Store and have their insurance as well. Some people don't like to get a refurbished phone when they just laid out $ for a new one, but if it works then where's the loss?

Anyway, just a suggestion cause it sounds like there's trouble with the phone.
I have mine 6 months and not a problem with MMS/SMS (that i know of)

;)

Regards,

If you like your Hero, give the 2.1 update a chance. I agree with Kelmar...it is a known issue and I do not use my SMS features because I am waiting for 2.1. It of course, is up to you. HTC makes a nice hardware product -- once the firmware is fixed, it should be great!!!! You decide. :D

correct me if i'm wrong but this problem does not persist in 3rd party messaging app i.e. handcent? if so, what's the problem? handcent looks better and is more intuitive anyway.

i mms between my hero and wife's moment w/o problems.

It'll happen with 3rd party messengers as well (they get their info from the stock messenger). The problem does not effect all of the Heros out there though.

Thanks for all the replies, guys. I am leaning toward waiting for the 2.1 update cause I do really love the phone. I had the Samsung Instinct before, so this is a significant upgrade for me. The only thing the Instinct has on the Hero is the keyboard, I HATE the Hero keyboard. Except for the prediction.

Also, I am using Handcent, which is awesome until the texting stops working. Kelmar's right, it's still messed up even with the 3rd party app.

Hang in there. I had the same problems when I first got my phone in Dec. I used Handcent app to replace stock msg app right away. This will help until we get 2.1.

I am running a 2.1 rom and the MMS issues and delays are gone. I am very happy with 2.1 and handcent app. Phone is running like a champ on 2.1.

Hard resetting all the time wasn't worth it to me either. I'm waiting for 2.1 and in the meantime I have people send pictures to my gmail or you can go to the sprint picture mail website to see all of the pictures you have already received but couldn't open. I also contacted sprint to get a credit to my bill because of this issue.

I have the HTC incredible and same crap.

It wouldnt let me send to AT&T customers but to my VZW blackberry was no problem.

Well i got rid of ChompSMS and Handcent and using the "normal" messages app its working fine for me.

Text messages I can do with the other programs but MMS i HAVE to compose and send using the standard app.

Since I have to use the standard for MMS anyway I got rid of the 3rd party apps.

Niiiiice... so it seems to be an issue with HTC and their sense overlay of things.... maybe we truly are BFE with the MMS problem.

As I have stated in another thread before, I have one of the Heros that had a problem from minute one with mms. I dealt with it for about a month and a half, I wouldn't get pics except maybe 1 out of 100 sent. I got the download button and it would never work, it would just say download unsuccessful. I decided I wanted to root my phone, for this and other issues that I had. After I got it rooted, I loaded a 2.1 rom, and have not had a problem since. NOT ONE. I am running sense, not vanilla android. I think that most who have rooted their phones would prob reiterate what I'm saying.

Just my .02
