I have been seriously considering installing a ROM on my Samsung GS3 (AT&T). What are the best ROM choices available? I am a medium user, texting, calling, internet browsing, and occasionally video watching/streaming. I am looking for speed and performance while maintaining battery life. I do not play a lot of games on my phone. I guess I am trying to eliminate the clutter and streamline my phone for performance.
Also I have seen that some ROMs work with TouchWiz while others do not. What are the Pros and Cons of TouchWiz and is my best option to stick with TouchWiz or go without it? What will I be missing out on without it?
Thanks in advance.

There are touchwiz based roms that keep the unique samsung features like multi-window, smart-stay, great camera app etc etc but if you dont really care about those things and want a lightweight fast rom then go for something like CyanogenMod or AOKP. theyre pretty much pure android but with some enhancements and theyre themable to change the look of the whole system

I should add that your choice of custom kernel can be just as important. Like you can tweak the CPU on the fly and underclock it when you want better battery life and overclock it when you want it to perform better than a Nexus 4

Try ParanoidKangdroid. You get 4.2.2., and it's smooth.:p

Since this will be my first time installing a custom rom I will probably stick with a TouchWiz rom. What would you suggest is the best option?

DeTmobilized is a very popular touch wiz based rom

That link takes you to the AT&T port.

Its android 4.1.2, but if you want to stick with touch wiz then that's what you have to use. 4.2.2 roms are non touch wiz, with the exception some the international version of the phone which does have 4.2 tw roms.

Cheers

If you are looking for TouchWiz, from personal experience, I've found that either Dandroid or Jelly 'Beans' are fantastic, fast, and stable. I personally used the KT747 kernel with them.

However, I grew weary of TouchWiz. While it feels and looks nice, it takes up entirely too much space and I have found that the framework eats the battery faster than an AOSP-based ROM. I am now on SlimBean and I love it. It is extremely fast and smooth, and the battery life is unbelievable. Less than 1% / hr at idle.
