me and some friends were at lake worth yesterday... on boat .. knee boarding and water boarding. great time.. tired.

kept my phone safe the whole time..

end of day.. get the boat out of the water onto its trailer.

someone yelled at me that there was a snake near where I was.. in the water.
I put my phone in my pocket as I got out of the water.. and looked for the snake. don't want to mess with water snakes.. can be very poisonous.
it leaves...

I walk back into the water to help guide the boat on the trailer.
totally forgetting I had my S3 in my pocket. so it was under water about 12 inches for about 3-5 mins. and it was 20 mins later, when I remembered and pulled it out to look at it.

under the half the screen was a water!!!!! and the green notification light was blinking. I quickly pulled the case off and the battery off.

so.. after I get home.. I put it under the hairdryer on low.. for 40 mins. still the water was there. I put it into a zip lock bag with rice. today the bag is in the sun.

have my fingers crossed!!!!

The new galaxy S4 ACTIVE is looking better everyday.

They had to make cuts to keep it feasible, and screen and camera downgrades aren't an area I'd trade for water resistance

20 hrs in a ziplock bag with rice.. and no change in water under glass!!!

so I took it out.. and let it sit outside in shade

Itll dry faster in the rice. Its like a dessicator if you do it right.

.

Every spec still trumps or equals my s3. Add to that water resistance, and I get a better phone than I have now. It comes down to money, not logistics. They could give you everything you want as well as giving me everything I want... but they would need to charge more for it.

What's better, a working phone with a lesser screen, or a water damaged phone with a sweet broken screen? :p

A fully high end one with insurance and/or a case :p;)

How about a fully high end one that's waterproof? I don't understand why something that costs $700+ and is carried everywhere you go isn't more hardened to begin with.

I am tickled pink (no really) that someone is finally bringing a high end device to market that's water proof. Kyocera has one that's on the lower end, and I believe Sprint will give you up to 4 free ones (if that's an indication of how cheap they are).

This is actually quite a nice change of events. I hope it's well received...as I'd like to see this as the norm moving forward. There's no reason these phones can't be built with waterproofing in mind. Where there's a market...there's a product to fill it.

BTW, I hate waterproof cases. There's nothing that pisses me off more than any foreign body lodging itself between the phone's screen and the front face of the waterproof case. Having the device itself waterproof is the direction I'd like to see this industry heading.

The Sony Xperia Z is waterproof too (and beautiful) but again, to me, the display isnt as nice as Samsungs AMOLED ones :(

P.s, ive always wondered why noone invents a water activated circuit breaker for phones

P.p.s i wonder if any insurance companies offer a discount for phones with a certain rating of water resistance?

I figured there were a couple of waterproof options but didn't want to put any time into researching them. :D

The HTC ONE has a non-removable battery and no SD card slot. You'd think with that kind of control over the case, they could have made it waterproof.

The cynic in you is showing funky ;)

Good points all around though.

As far as the circuit breaker idea, I think that would just be very hard to implement effectively.

Where would you place it?

If internal...
The phone could be only sitting in some water and not submerged (not break the tripper), and still damage the back speaker, camera, ect.

If external, it could trip in the rain, humidity, ect

I'm not sure the circuit breaker method is the best way to go, but perhaps if it can be done inexpensively, it would be at least a basic start. Once you get water intrusion, you're going to be left with some form of contamination wheter in the camera, or behind the screen. It's more important IMHO to prevent this intrusion than to just shut off power in the event of the intrusion. If a salt water intrusion, you'll have corrosion to worry about.

That being said...GET BOTH intrusion protection and a circuit breaker :D

Lol :) i dont see why full water resistance is that hard to do tbh. I had a nokia dumbphone before the days of cameras or even coloured display that was water resistant. It actualy floated in beer lol :)

Beer!!!

today is Thursday.. 4 days after it got wet.
there is still a wet spot under the glass.

I got impatient and put the ziplock bag of rice and the phone in the sun.. yesterday.
it is drying faster.. but now there is a discoloration ring..under the glass where the water was.

any one get these? and will they go away?
