Folks, got a new SGS3- very nice. Everything's set up, synched, working great....

EXCEPT, I can not get the Gmail 'new mail' notification sound to work!!:(:(
Now, I know my way around Android; I'm tech-savvy; but I'm danged if I can find out how to get the sound for new mail turned on...I've googled everything, uninstalled & reinstalled the gmail acct, been thru the all menus & submenus, stood on my head, chanted, etc etc etc....silence.

New mail does pop up immediately on the gmail interface screen- so push synch is working and I'm not missing anything. But I definitely need an audible heads-up when I get new mail.

This is nutz. Can someone give me something I haven't tried yet??

Eternal praise and approbations if ya can...thanks!!

Jeff

Please forgive my asking this, I know you said you checked everything, but in menu/settings/sound/volume---is your notification volume up?

Is gmail the only app you have notification issues with?

 ;)

Yep..in 'sound' under general settings, 'notifications' is turned up. Btw, I've tried both the native jellybean sounds and also 3rd-pty sounds.

When I call the phone I rings...when I get a text, I get a notification sound.

When I get a new gmail msg, only silence. Gotta be the phone.

Halp!!:(

So in gmail/menu/label settings...sound checked in there also?
--menu/settings/"youremailaccount"/inbox sound & vibrate---everything on?

Those are the only 2 places I see to have sound enabled and it appears that you have been there/done that :p

Geez my friend, I am out of ideas :dontknow:

And I see you have uninstalled/reinstalled gmail too .

Do you have some other app that controls profiles at all?

If you uninstalled Gmail and reinstalled it, all settings (and bugs) may have been imported back into the system upon reinstall, unless before tapping "uninstall" in Application Manager you tapped "clear cache" and "clear data."

*Sigh* Hadn't tried that; but just did...no change. Dang! I also just now set up calendar sound notifications, worked like a charm. All ringtones & notification sounds work just as they should...except gmail....Grrrrr!!!!!:mad::mad:

Has this been suggested before to try a different notification tone perhaps?
I am really puzzled by this also :dontknow:

Ok are you ready? I mean, are you READY????

So I d/l Lightflow Lite, then set notifications for gmail. And...nothing!!!! Arrrggghhh!!!!

This is too weird! So not even 3rd-party apps work?!?! I'm convinced- gotta be something w/ the phone. But I'm danged if I can figger it out!!!!!:(:(:(

ah geez man!!
You said this phone is new correct?
One last ditch effort here, is a factory reset. Yes you will lose your apps/data and contacts if not backed up to google, but what else can you do?
I mean, you seemed to have tried everything!! At least that I can think of and others too!

**sigh** If you want, try the reset ;)

This is indeed, very odd!

Lol if this is turns out to be an obvious one, a few of us are gona look dumb :D
Sorry LF didnt work man.

Bit of an obvious one and cant remember if its been asked but in Application Manager, is the Notifications box checked?
I agree with Mike, its gona have to be a factory reset :(
If you do that and it doesnt fix it then :vroam: ill eat my phone

P.s, does light flow work atall for gmail, like can u use it to change the LED colour etc for gmail?

The EAGLE has LANDED!!!!

Youse guys ready for this???

The notifications only don't work when I'm sending a gmail FROM the
phone TO the phone!!!!

For whatever reason, if I send meself a gmail from my PC, the phone DOES NOW notify...BUT, that only started working the next day, after I installed Lightflow (???)

Go figger, eh??? Whatever, I guess; it works and that's the main thing. Thx for all the help.

Now as to the SGS3 native browser...got some nits to pick there, too...where's the forum for that?

cheers

Yeah...kinda weird..??? anywhoo, it's working now:D:D

Now can anybody point me to a good SGS3 browser thread...

Eg: say I'm on a webpage, and it's long...so I scroll/swipe down, down, down... but is there a quick way to get back to the top, where the address bar/windows icon/bookmarks are??

Or, a way to get the addy bar to stay fixed/visible, such that when I'm several pages/swipes down, I'd still have access to the addy/windows bar?

As it is, when I start scrolling down, the addy bar disappears

Thoughts/links/info?

thx!!

I am also facing the same issue as you. I too am running a Custom ROM(4.2.2) and the GMAIL app simply refuses change the sound in the app settings --> Username --> Notifications section.

Again also confirming that i have gone through Settings --> Sound --> Default Notification sound but it doesn work.

And it's not just GMail for me. It is also my corporate(exchange) mail setup on the same device that never notifies me through sound AND/OR vibrate!

This is messed. I am not quite sure who to point fingers at this bug as i am running the custom ROM, could this be due to that? or could this be due to Google??
