the "messages" icon on the home screen is a sort of envelope speech bubble looking yoke
when there are new sms text messages you get a small green circle over this icon with the number of unread messages in it.

how do you clear this?

I hit the icon and get a screen of my text messages
none are highlighted in bold to say what's unread
AND even after opening them all and going back to the home screen the damn green circle is still there.
after a while it goes again?

any ideas?

Not sure if all phones are like this, but I have an Eris so if I put my finger at the top of the screen and swipe down it pulls down a notification list. I would try pulling down the notification and then there is an option to clear notifications. Again, I don't know the desire at all (I'm only a month into my Eris)

It should go away automatically after you read the message. Also, try the good old turn the phone and turn it back on trick.

it does it after a reboot

it does not matter if i delete the icon and put it back again

and it does not show zero just 1 but again when i go into the messages none are highlighted to signify a new one .... and viewing each still doesn't clear the green one circle ....
very strange

OK the problem here is that this green indicator does not show immediately when the text arrives - annoying

so i read the text

then the indicator appears

i read the text again to try to clear it - with no luck

then after a few (random) minutes it goes away - very annoying

This is still annoying me - anyone else having the issue found a way to resolve it?

I was having the same problem but it was caused by SMS Popup - not sure if you are using that. If I had notification enabled by SMS Popup, even if I turned off the system notifications for the normal messaging app, then the message icon on the homescreen would still show the green circle even after reading the message in the message app.

What I did was change the settings in SMS Popup - untick the "Mark as read on close" option. Which sounds counter-intuitive!

Now I get the usual SMS Popup,, which I read on screen and then hit close for the popup to go away. Then on my homescreen the messages app will have a green circle, BUT when you hit this and go into your messages, and exit again, it disappears.

As I say, this obviously only applies if you have SMS Popup installed.

@EnochRoot you're gentleman - thank you sir

I "am" using smspopup and that makes perfects sense

cheers eske

PS I'm a huge fan of Neal Stephenson

No Worries, it was driving me bonkers! Its a shame the "close" button on SMS Popup doesn't also dismiss the green circle at the same time, but at least we can now get rid of it eventually.

PS Neal who, sorry? :)

I turned off the notifications and wheni turned them back on the green bubble no longer shows up displaying how many messages i have unread. Does anyone know how to turn that notification bubble back on again? i still get the text message icon appearing in the task bar and notifications list.
