I got tired of waiting too and I am glad I just went ahead and did this

Samsung I5700 Galaxy Spica Android 2.1 Flashing Guide | It's All About Software, PHP, JavaScript and Android Programming

Its been 10 days now and I've had no problems whatsoever. In fact things are better now ! Just backup your APN settings before you upgrade and whatever else you need to backup.

1. The new Unlock slider is exactly what I wanted.
2. Live Wallpapers rock.
3. Battery life has improved a bit ( depends on things you have running in the background of course)
4. Overall feel is much much better and a sense that things are faster. Lots of additional settings to make things smoother. You can control animation speed and effects.
5. Exchange Support is there BUT it doesn't support security policy enforcement and that rules out a majority of users who want ActiveSync on their Android. No worries for me. I use TouchDown for Android (its just $20 and is amazing !!).
6. New gallery is awesome !!! You can sync your Picasa photos as well.
7. Supports multiple Google accounts.

And a whole bunch of other minor things. Overall, its rock solid and easy on the eyes too once you install the LkMod pack;)

WORD of CAUTION:
Follow every step of the guide as it is described especially if you've never used ODIN before.

UPDATED: For those interested, I was on Cupcake (I5700DDIL2) before I upgraded. Also there are problems with Windows 64-bit USB drivers. It didn't work for me and a whole bunch of others. I had to switch from my 64-bit Windows 7 Home Premium laptop to another with Windows 7 32-Bit to get things working. This new upgrade contains the firmware for Europe and so you WILL lose your APN settings once you upgrade. I am sure a simple Google search will give you your APN settings for your region (in case you haven't backed it up)

Happy upgrading ! It's worth it !

nice guide you linked up... i used sameers guide (links somewhere in the thread).

the firmware i was able to install was DXJC4 (latest for asia according to the samsung firmwares website)... and i didnt get the live wallpapers nor the nexus one type gallery.

had a few problems at first since i installed the latest EU firmware... then i just repeated flashing for the latest asian firmware.

was live wallpapers included by default on the firmware posted on the tutorial you linked up?

Yes. BUT only when I used the LKMod add-on PDA package. The steps for that is also included ! The firmware itself doesn't have Live Wallpapers.

ive found this on Norwegian one but dont no what it says

http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g128/andypp/untitled-14.jpg

It's only a guide for how to uprade your phone. Remove SIM, put your phone in "error seeking mode" (?) and other things to do before upgrading. If you press "Sett i gang" - Start, they give you a link to NPS a version called 1.4.1 AD1.

I tried updating, but it didn't work.

I'm from Norway btw :)

EDIT: I found this on the Norwegian Samsung site, and it says that the upgrade is available in Norway from 19. april. Which is strange, seeing as I can't upgrade my phone from 1.5.

Hi! Thanks for much for pointing to that link. I managed to put all the things in the mod after I installed the latest firmware. I personally prefer gde instead of helix launcher. The cube effect is very cool. The only problem is is that sometimes I have small white lines in the pictures in the gallery. Do you have this with this mod? Thanks very much for your help.

the only thing is to contact samsung about it and ask them whats going on and if they have had any problems..at least it says you can update theres no change on the uk samsung site i still think the only ones that are going to be updated are the ones thats been branded the spica not the portal
