Help Timescape v Sense UI

Hi
'm seriously confused between X10 and Desire. I like every bit of X10 but Sense UI attracts my attention as well. To be more precise, it's HTC's widgets which look very appealing. I have never used HTC before but having read Desire's review and seen snapshots of Sense UI, I like them.

Can you please tell me which one is better and why, Timescape or Sense UI?

In Desire's photo album one can upload photos to facebook, flickr directly. Is this available in Mediascape also?

There isn't necessarily a better option they are both different,

I would say Timescape is better than HTC's Friendstream for social networking sites like Twitter & Facebook, and Mediascape is deffently the best UI For Media on any Current Android device.

And yes you can upload photos directly to facebook etc.

You can also view all your facebook and picasa photos on the web in your gallery it syncs them to your phone then theres Playnow which is like Sony's Music store you can preview and buy tracks right from the Mediascape UI.

Then theres the option to import missing album art and get more information on artists you listen to etc etc.

It would be easier for people to help you decide which phone to buy if you told us what features are most important to you and what you most likely to use it for etc.

A better, if not best, camera is my first priority. I definitely go for looks as well as long as the other features in the phone are complete. In this case, X10 appears to me a complete and rare package of smartphone with excellent camera and media capabilities.

It's just as I told earlier HTC's widgets that looked good to me.

I really didn't like my X10 to begin with, but finding ways around some of my gripes, by different pieces of software. That's the beauty of Android! Some things that can't be changed will always be a pain (poor speaker output, no pinch to zoom etc.), and as long and you are clear on that, you can make the right choice for yourself.

I find Mediascape useless because it has a fixed way of showing things. I would prefer not to see "most played". Instead, a list of pictures or movies in flexible views determined by the user (alphabetical etc.). So, I don't use Mediascape at all! Timescape isn't an obvious benefit for me. However, now realising that it is a much quicker way of re-dialling a contact, than going through several menu options in "phone dialler"! Actually, that is one basic area where my Hero's sense UI was far better than this X10. In phone dialler, you could start typing numbers, and not only would numbers appear, but a list of contacts, whose names or numbers corresponded to your key presses. With X10, you have to go through your contact menu directly.

In short, make sure the hardware is what you want. With the interface, Android market nearly always has other options to install!

Dem's got it right. This is a great device from a hardware standpoint, and any of the software issues have been easily overcome by downloading some apps from the market. I know many reviews (and even SE themselves) say that the real selling point of the X10 is Timescape and Mediascape, but I'm loving the hardware, and am using other apps to replace those two.

bTunes is a great music player, BTW.

I just bought the New Xperia X10 and I am in love with it, I find the Timescape a great feature, it is easy to use and with all the other features and options on this phone you will be a happy camper, I was sold on the 8.1MP camera and also all the other features it has like 1Ghz CPU and 1GB internal memory and 16GB SD card. But everyone has different tastes but I myself am very happy with it.

Well, you made it very clear to me that hardware should be of my choice. And I am definitely going for X10 because none can compete this when you talk about design. Don't like Desire's shape a bit.

Your on your own with finding them useless.

And yes you can see things in Alphabetical Order on Mediascape you sort by albums/artists etc and it shows them from A-Z it also has a Search bar at the top of the screen...

Maybe I am.

No search bar in my Mediadcape when I look at photos. And the folders not in alphabetical order; can't find any options to set it in alphabetical either. Still, no biggie. I use Astro to search through folders and launch files.

if you go by hardware, each has its advantages. Multi-touch or camera.

IMO Multi-touch is not that important. Yes, one does need it when surfing net on iPhone or any other phone which hasn't got as big screen as X10 has because the page loaded on these devices is not at all legible unless you zoom in. But it's opposite in X10; thanks to its 4" screen, the pages loads and it's highly legible. One doesn't have to zoom in.

As far as picture gallery is concerned, it may be important to some to have multi-touch zoom-in facility but again IMO this is something not all important. One can live without this. After all, how many times we zoom-in pictures and see them so closely... I don't remember I ever zoomed-in pictures in mobile.

My elder brother purchased his X10 two weeks ago and ever since I did some surfing on its magnificent 4" screen, believe me I never enjoyed surfing net on iPhone again. iPhone's screen size seems so small now.

Agree 100% i actually find multitouch annoying i much prefer to double tap to zoom rather than trying to pinch it.

The camera is a much bigger advantage.

You don't plan on playing games, or even using new applications that are bound to be released utilizing mt? It's your choice.

You do realize that you can have them both, and just not use pinch if you dislike it? They are not in confrontation. How can something that exists only as an option, a second choice, annoy you? As i said, you simply use tap to zoom.

Also, SE is in deep shit. They are cutting on everything and using the cheapest possible components (for some things, as speakers, screen controllers..), cutting down R&D (no equilizer?!, older versions of software..) and basically want to become profitable by making phones of lesser quality than they did before. Also, on some markets they are giving away costumer support to others. Last year, SE was one of the worts manufacturers when it came to their phones malfunctioning.
Just ask Eldar Murtazin :)

So to sum it up..

Desire and sense. Better yet, if youre american, incredible.

If all you came into this part of the forum for was to Troll then i suggest you go back to the Htc forums and stay there, Your talking Sh*t.

The X10 has a better:

* Camera.

* Bigger Screen and its viewable outdoors.

* Much better Sound Quality and Bundled Headphones also better Media UI overall.

*No Hardware faults ( Desire owners complain of overheating handsets and screens cracking by themselves)

The Sony X10 is a bit like buying a good Specced PC knowing it will get upgraded to Windows 7 but starting off with Vista.

The HTC Desire is a bit like buying a not so good Specced PC thats already got Windows 7.

I know what i would choose...

I actually lusted for X10 ever since i saw it, but after they delayed it into eternity, i got sick of waiting. I'm just pointing out some faults, fanboys never give both sides of the story.

* Camera.

I did say that. But still, it has no flash! Instead, you have to manually turn photo light every time you need it. I thought only apple was that idiotic in making hardware limitations.

* Bigger Screen and its viewable outdoors.

True and true. But amoled does not become un-viewable outdoors really, at least that's what most reviews said. And color quality is far superior. It's a trade of, yeah.

* Much better Sound Quality and Bundled Headphones also better Media UI overall.

False.

If it came with MW600, that would be another story, but it does not. because they (SE) are cheap nowdays. No fm radio. No equilizer(!?).
Mediascape is amazing, i agree. But it is an application and i am sure XDA will be able to rip it. that would be nice.

*No Hardware faults ( Desire owners complain of overheating handsets and screens cracking by themselves)

Yes, in millions. ;)
And Satio is also a perfect point for your case, is it not?

The Sony X10 is a bit like buying a good Specced PC knowing it will get upgraded to Windows 7 but starting off with Vista.

Thats the problem! X10 is GOOD speced, but they charge and sell it as a FLAGSHIP!
Also, by the time X10 gets 2.0 or 2.1, others will be getting something newer.

The HTC Desire is a bit like buying a not so good Specced PC thats already got Windows 7.

LOL. You are funny.

HTC Desire vs. Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 - GSMArena.com

Desire:
more ram
faster performance
dual-touch (not at its best, true, but still good enough)
more solid build

X10:
better camera

subjective:
screen. x10 bigger and sunlight, desire multitouch and quality

I know what i would choose...

I'm sure you do. Because you are a fanboy.

Wrong it's a Software limitation so after the update it will be a flash.

Wrong again go read some more reviews unless its Samsungs Super Amoled then its useless outdoors

False.

And Wrong again its only the UK version that does'nt get MW600 pretty much everywhere else does, Again Equalizer is just software thats gonna get updated.

This is the X10 not the Satio.... its not that hard.

No where OFFICIAL does it say the X10 is getting 2.0 or 2.1 and it could infact skip them all together.

More Ram which will be hardly noticable.
Faster Performance again thats subjective.
Multi-Touch like i said is overhyped and hardly a killer feature unless your a idiot.
More solid build yeah right if you like your phone heating up like a microwave and then in some cases damaging the fragile thin screen.

X10: Better Camera yes.
Better Screen yes.

I'm sure you do. Because you are a fanboy.[

Right a fanboy who has moved to the Sony X10 from the "HTC" Dream or T-Mobile G1 yes right i am really a fanboy.

And by the way your the one without a X10 writing in the X10 forum i am not in the HTC forum spreading Crap.

No use, i give up.
I'm sure most people will be happy with both phones, but some of X10 faults are being pushed under the rug. And to some people, they might make a big difference. I just wanted to point them out.

And to be OT, Sense is overall much better than scapes, since scapes are just two applications+plus blue skin for standard android.

Not Canada since Rogers only offered the MW600 to those that preordered the phone before the release date. So those that ordered the phone after its release won't get the MW600. One reason why I think the phone has a lower price tag @ CA$550 without a contract.

Nope he's not I don't use mediascape because I listen to a lot of audio books and I haven't found a way to resume playback so I use meridian, also I find the navigation clunky.

I find timescape annoying because I don't want to see what everyone of my friends facebook or twitter update and I don't want their ugly faces on the home screen of my phone, also I want to save my battery.

As for the no flash I've had a k800 and then a k850i and the flash was pretty bad because you had the choice of darkness of really bright flash. On the k850 a light would come on it would look perfect then the flash would go off and it would be too bright, I much prefer the light what you see is what you get.

As for headphones I don't care either because I just use my awesome ones.

I guess you could call me a SE fanboy but then again I will gladly point out their faults and I go for camera over anything really so that's why I've stuck with SE.

The main thing with SE's is the OS's have been crap, I'm a few weeks in and android with SE hardware is looking like a good combination.
