Root [International] DjeMBeY ROM's i9505 - Dummies Guide

I'm on MF8, Modified stock version, flashed through Odin, PC, and no problems with Wi-Fi here old son. I guess you may have used the CWM .zip version maybe.

I flashed V2 Special Edition on a full wipe yesterday but like yourself and Atma, I found the stock Google Android to be a bit too featureless and basic and whilst I use DjeMBeY's Lite/Modified MF8 Rom with a lot of the bloatware removed, I prefer things like the camera features, toggles and icons from Samsung that are still there. However, for some, it is nice to have the option I suppose.

It was indeed the cwm version I flashed....so you think it might be an issue with that then?

I was actually also trying out omega as I like the add ons such as no mms conversion etc but version 7 which is mf8 had the same issue(tried flashing it over stock mf8 and over stock mf5 and on its own.Lol), otherwise mf5 is working out quite nicely for now. Though using chrome theme :)

I've a suggestion .. how about some guidance on which version to flash? I've types 8#1234# and got a list on info but looking at DjemMBey's thread I'm none the wiser about which ROM would be suitable? I find the CSC thing most confusing!

AP:I9505XXUAMDM

CP:I9505XXUAMDM

CSC: I9505OXXAMDB

These are custom ROM's and you can therefore flash any version that you like as they all contain the English language pack. See first paragraph of warning in #4.6.

As per my reply to you, here...

DjeMBeY ROM's i9505 - Dummies Guide is also a step-by-step guide for installing pre-rooted ROMS with recovery. The main difference is that you are limited to installing whichever ROM the dev brings out

There is no DjeMBeY ROM that is a direct mirror for your existing firmware as this is quite old now.

Are ya gonna?

Maybe! ;)

UPDATE

I gave Google SE v3 CWM my best shot DjeMBeY. Coming from Modified MF8 with PhilZ recovery, I did a Factory Reset and a cache and Dalvik wipe and then installed the .zip file and rebooted but was bombarded by a series of, "processes stopped", such as android acore, Media storage, gapps, etc:

OK. Up and running after DjeMBeY's advice on a system wipe as well.

New apps...

Current = News. Telegraph, Independent, Guardian, etc:

Keep = Note taking app

People = Contacts. Now in white background with contact photos on right

Wi-Fi Advanced = Wi-Fi optimisation (minimise battery usage when Wi-Fi is on)

Chrome = default browser

General observations: Status bar is Android blue. Cannot seem to take screen shots. Drag down Notification menu is spartan... Brightness, Settings, Wi-Fi, carrier signal, battery%, Aeroplane mode and bluetooth are on a separate toogle page. Camera is very basic with minimum settings in a half moon setup.

I know that some of us complain about the Samsung bloatware but there are certain features and UI that I am missing from Android 4.2.2, MF8. The drop down notification panel with everything on one page. The settings menu layout. S-Planner. Multi coloured icons.

This ROM is very fast and responsive and working perfectly now.

However, for the time being, I am reverting back to Android 4.2.2.

One of the biggest favours that Samsung have done for us modders is to build a phone and have a battery that can handle not just the Android stuff but also all the Samsung bloatware. This is because that when that bloatware is removed, as in DjeMBeY's Modified Rom's, there is a lot of battery to be had.

DjeMBeY ROM, modified, MF8

Also, by removing some of that bloatware it frees up some space on your phone. All my 86 apps are on Internal memory. See #1.5 and #1.6

Heres an interesting one . I had Philz installed already and then flashed Djembeys ROM. Everything in ODIN went as described in your thread here Ironass. It reset into Philz asking me to install an untrusted .zip. With 2 failed warnings in the list below. Upon reboot it asked to remove custom recovery. The phone reboots and no Rom has been installed yet Odin says PASS. My head is jumbled. Should I somehow remove Philz before Flashing this ROM? It didnt seem to like it. Maybe I should update Philz first?

EDIT: Id not done a full wipe prior. Perhaps this was it. Id only know by trying I guess. However untill I purchase a decent sized External SD I will be leaving it alone. Having 2gb internal is a joke. I never had this problem on the S2.

EDIT #2: Further pondering. Not doing a full wipe shouldn't necessarily cause a ROM fail. So perhaps it would be due to the fact Im trying to use ODIN to install the ROM and not CWM. Gonna go that route this time. Phew its a much longer download. Side question then..On installing this ROM via CWM , is it safe to assume I would still need to install the Wifi fix via ODINs Phone mode?

Not sure I can help you massively rudedawg, but I can express my past experience.... I flashed the mf8 via cwm coming from mf5, I tried with wipe, without all sorts, Wi-Fi just wouldn't work, tried the Wi-Fi fix and it made no difference for me :-( then tonight I rerooted with mf5, flashed philz, did a complete wipe (install New Rom option) booted into download, flashed mf8 and everything is working :) just to be sure, after the phone rebooted, I flashed philz as it was there anyway, I had tried booting into it, but failed,I think due to my key press.... anyway, everything is now working as should be, week except philz recognising my 64gb card, but otherwise.... ;-)

Hi Rudedawg! You don't mention which version, stock, modified or CWM, that you are trying to install. I'm guessing that you were trying to flash the CWM .zip using Odin.

Phew its a much longer download. Side question then..On installing this ROM via CWM , is it safe to assume I would still need to install the Wifi fix via ODINs Phone mode?

As I mentioned to sntaylor, earlier this evening, I would recommend the stock modified, MF8, ROM, see #1.2, flashed via Odin as the CWM version, see #1.3, requires a Wi-Fi patch flash via Odin, anyway.

Well twist my nipples and call me a turnip I was only flashing the CSC version. Wheres my noose?

EDIT: Ok im lost. You mention Post #2 but these are all CWM versions. The Odin versions have all been moved to Post 3. These are the CSC versions so I assume I wasnt wrong in the first place. Time to go pass out.

Turnip! :banghead:

As I mentioned to sntaylor, earlier this evening, I would recommend the stock modified, MF8, ROM, see #1.2, flashed via Odin as the CWM version, see #1.3, requires a Wi-Fi patch flash via Odin, anyway.

It took me some time to PROPERLY read through everything to finally sus that you were referring to your own posts rather than the XDA thread. Once this was establish and I read certain words and sentences slowly in my head did the penny drop.

Honestly matey If I did this all the time Id be in a much better place. :)

So I got this installed now. My about device now states MF8. I dunno about anything else though as none of those apps listed have been removed. Still all there.

Did you do a Factory Reset before flashing?

Did you use the Odin version of the ROM mentioned in #1.2?

Did you use a Titanium Backup to restore apps and did that backup include the system apps that had been removed?

Ok it would appear I lost my root. So would explain a few things. No I didnt full wipe only clear cache/dalvik.

As for titanium I removed a few apps which were red but considered green due to a colour chart you have on your dummies guide to rooting. Perhaps unfreezing everything first would be better. Ill do a full wipe after nandroid tonight and start again from scratch.

Also id have to link the rom version tonight also as on my phone currently. It was an .zip with 2 files within. One being a .tar file. Perhaps ive just flashed an unmodified stock and not checked. I guess well see.

Downloaded file was named : I9505XXUBMF8-PRE-ROOTED-DEODEXED-SuperSlim-CWM. It extracted to this : I9505XXUBMF8_I9505OXABMF8_I9505XXUBMF8_HOME.tar.md5

The trouble is your guide lists 3 different types of download however it really isnt as simple as that. There is no mention of CSC files as these are the only ones mentioned by Djembey that are installed via ODIN.

See below as this is what most will see:

So lets say I go with the Post #2 files labeled "
CWM flashable ROM's has been moved to post #2!"

Let's see:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=42798412&postcount=2

There is 3 panes. One is the Google special edition , the next is stock unmodified and the 3rd modified. The third panel has different versions and in each 7 links within.

Code:
Model: GT-I9505 (4.2.2)
PDA: XXUBMF8
PHONE: XXUBMF8
CSC: OXABMF8 (8 codes)
Kernel: 3.4.0-917495 (19.06)
Build Date: 19.06.2013
Changelist: 917495
Original Stock ROM: Download: <<< Hotfile >>>
Stock KERNEL - ZIP: Downloads: <<< Android Host >>>
Stock RECOVERY - ZIP: Downloads: <<< Android Host >>>
Pre-Rooted ROM - ZIP: Downloads: <<< Android Host >>>
WiFi FIX - Open in Odin as PHONE - Download: <<< Dev-Host >>>
Deleted apps (XXUBMF8 - DEODEXED) - Downloads: <<< Android Host >>>
PATCHED SecPhone.apk (Call Recording + NO increasing ringtone) - Download: CWM flashable package

As an example.

I had selected the ANDROID HOST link after Pre-rooted ROM. This would make sense correct? This is also where I had found my file mentioned earlier , and that of course which I had rooted. And that is what I did.

So if indeed I did do correctly then one can assume not full wiping may of coursed the bad flash.Even if Odin was happy with it.

So apologies for typing as maybe a barrister in court would but I wanted it to be clear. Now feel free to tear me a new one and tell me im over complicating matters.

P.s that file I did flash seemed to install a load of dodgy german apps like X taxi on my phone. Its like it did the opposite to debloating.

EDIT: Nope reflashing that file just did the same as before. Now I just have a fresh install of a german MF8 stock Rom unrooted. I really don't get this. Please link to the EXACT file to flash.

 My guide lists 3 types of ROM in my post #1 and these are indexed as #1.1, #1.2 and #1.3. No mention is made of mods such as CSC files by me. Both the stock ROMs and the stock modified ROMs are flashed via Odin as per DjeMBeY's instructions in his post #1 in his xda thread..

Flashing instructions:

1. Install KIES or USB drivers from here
2. Download and run Odin from here (v.3.04 is recomended)
3. Make sure that ONLY AutoReboot & F.Reset Time is ticked in Odin options
4. Download and extract one of Pre-Rooted ROM's
5. Load extracted file (.tar.MD5) as PDA in Odin.
6. Turn OFF your phone, Press&Hold POWER+HOME+VOLUME_DOWN buttons until phone boot into Download/Odin Mode
7. Connect phone to the computer and WAIT for the drivers to be installed. You will see blue or yellow indicator in left top corner of Odin, with phone connected to port: COM:x
8. Click START and wait until you see GREEN indicator [PASS], flashing is finished
9. Unplug USB cable and enjoy.
10. If your Phone Status shows CUSTOM, remove battery for few seconds and check again, if still nothing, perform FACTORY DATA RESET.
NOTE: you can use Triangle Away, tick "System modified workaround" option and restart your phone. Device Status will change back to OFFICIAL without Factory Reset.
TESTED ON I9505!! Works like charm... :)

I also mention his third type of ROMs, the CWM/TWRP/PhilZ flashable ZIP, which are flashed via recovery as there name implies.

See below as this is what most will see:

So lets say I go with the Post #2 files labeled "
CWM flashable ROM's has been moved to post #2!"

Nowhere in my Dummies Guide do I refer to the various ROMs locations in DJeMBeY's xda thread but only by their titles.

There is 3 panes. One is the Google special edition , the next is stock unmodified and the 3rd modified. The third panel has different versions and in each 7 links within.

That is not an Odin flashable file but as the name inplies in DjeMBeY's heading in his post #2 in his xda thread, a, "CWM/TWRP/PhilZ flashable ZIP", to be flashed via recovery on a pre rooted phone that already has a custom recovery as per the instructions in #2.10 of my giude.

Sorry dude Ive read it and read it and it makes no sense to me pal. Flashed CWM version. Much simpler. However the removed roms stated do not include Drop box and chat on as these remained. No interference from titanium. Sorry mate.
I dont mean to slate your guide , merely as it is not as straight forward as you claim.

I am aware you didn't mention csc packages BUT when you click the link you provided to pick my ROM download , There is only one set of downloads mentioned by Djembey that refer to ODIN. Do you see my point? See the first pic I posted. It states go to Post #3. So you can see how I made my first mistake.

Also can someone please screenshot their about phone section so i can marry it up. Ta.

EDIT: Correction the apps including Chat on and drop box were remembered by my google account. So all is fine there.

Also Please tell me this is the correct section to download from? All from the first post in Djembeys thread.

a bit late now as the ROM seems successful via CWM but this is really playing with my mind.

I know you are not slating it old son... but it only seems to be you having a problem with it and I am trying to get to the bottom of it.

My download link for the CWM/TWRP/PhilZ flashable ZIP downloads merely takes you to DjeMBeY's xda thread, as a whole and not to a specific download site, I agree. This is because that in the short time that the ROMs have been in existance, the precise post locations have changed constantly as the dev has added more and varied ROMs. However, as mentioned in my previous reply, the dev quite clearly states that both the stock and stock modified ROMs are flashable via Odin in his Flashing instructions.

So, we have 3 versions of his ROMs. 2 of which, stock and stock modified, are flashable via Odin and the 3rd type, CWM/TWRP/PhilZ flashable ZIP, is flashable via custom recovery... agreed?

Also can someone please screenshot their about phone section so i can marry it up. Ta

That is the correct section if you want to download the, "Modified", ROM mentioned in #1.2 with apps removed and flashable via Odin as per #2.0-#2.9 in my post #2.

You've ticked all my boxes Mr Ass. I seem to be at last up to date. :)

One last thing , Ive noticed the stock Email app crashes or at least fails to load. Is this a known issue? Ive tried using K9 and it simply wont connect to any of my imap or pop servers like the stock app did.

EDIT: Tried Aqua Mail from google play and it worked first time. No further issue.

I guess you know where you were going wrong now.

I'm on K9 mail and no problems here with it.
