Anyone Beta testing new FB app?

Didn't know there was a beta app. Got links to news articles, link to the app perhaps?

There is a Fb group you have to join using your Google play email and once it is approved you can download it in the play store.....
The link is listed in the play store so you can just go there and join. It is a closed group.

Is it still overly aggressive with app permissions? Does it still kill your battery?

Facebook has always been a well designed app and slick to use. It's all that other stuff I don't like.

Permissions haven't changed and if you turn on refresh and notifications yes it will drain your battery. They are working on the UI and I am hopeful they can make the app smaller as far as how much ram it uses.

I'm running it. It seems decent, but the only real issues I had with the non-beta version isn't something that's exclusive to mobile: top stories vs. most recent.

I want to know whose hare-brained idea it was to add top stories and not make the toggle PERSISTENT. It's annoying to have to change the setting every.single.time I open the app, and at least once a day on the browser version.

I don't care what Facebook thinks my "top stories" are, I just want to see my feed in chronological order.

And they seem to be ignoring the many, many requests to change this on the beta group on Facebook.

*sigh*

Im one of these people (i dont know how rare i am tbh lol) who only uses landscape when taking/viewing pics, watching vids. Im just not in the habit of using landscape mode to browse or use social sites.
Maybe its because i dont type in landscape. I still use an oldskool keypad lol :D View attachment 57885

If you use a Transformer tablet with a keybaord dock, you pretty much have to use it in landscape as the tablet docks with the keyboard in landscape. FB does landscape poorly. Google+ does landscape really well. Many apps don't even have a landscape orientation, so those are pretty much useless on my tablet.

Yeah that must be annoying man. I suppose it is quite a niche device though

I wrote to many developers complaining about the lack of landscape mode. My banking app is the worse. The developer told me to use the mobile site.

If you do a lot of typing, the Transformer with keyboard dock is an excellent device. That is the reason I got it over and above all other tablets. I think it is still the best keyboard dock and its been out for over 2 years.

in what way is it fixed?

It will still reset to "top story's" if you sign out, but "most recent" works great. Finally everything seems to always be in chronological order and when you update the news feed it actually loads new posts.......

However, search function has stopped working and load times have slowed way down.
I don't use notifications but I have read where some problems have popped up there.
No changes to the UI. (At least for me)
If you are running Gingerbread you can move the app to SD card. (I have Jellybean so I don't know if it works or not.)

I won't consider this truly fixed until "Top Stories" is completely removed. I don't trust Facebook's algorithms to be able to determine what a "top story" is for ME.

I agree and I do believe it will be removed on the final version.

I have noticed that they have made one or two minor changes to the UI. I believe that the next update will focus on the UI mostly as well as fixing a few bugs.
