Help Does the centura disable data in call?

I noticed when making calls my phone is disabling data completely while I am on a call. Is this normal?

What is considered data? Cause I can still use Facebook and messaging when I am on a call but not my camera. I am new to all of this though I do pick things up very quickly and any help will be greatly appreciated. When I say new I don't just mean new to the android, I mean new to cell phones period.

3g data, WiFi still works in call I believe
