Root [MetroPCS] Metro PCS GS4 ROOT (SGH-M919N)

Okay, I trust you. Your stats look like you know what your talking about.

Rooting now, standby for build.prop info.

PLEASE try to stay available though in case something goes wrong and I need help.

Ive rooted several phones several times and never had an issue (including with the GS3) but because this isnt specific to my device Im a little nervous.

Shabby is well known here at AF and other forums he's not a developer for nothing he's the right man to get with.

Hey guys. Thank you for everything today. I'm rooted and everything is worKing as it should be. I only have one more question for you;

My clockwork mod recovery is showing a very old version and it will not allow me to make backups. Is there a way to get the most recent clockwork mod recovery onto the phone our do i have to wait for someone to build it?

Shabby, I just looked a little closer and it seems that the touch v1.0.3.3 is the intended version for this particular custom recovery. It just doesnt seem to want to work with my ROM Manager app. Is this correct? and if so, is there a different Rom Manager type app I can use to manage my backups and custom roms, etc.?

Please let me know.

tahts because you installed OUDHs recovery, not clockworkmod :). oudhs is a spin off of cwm and has some unique features that i put in. i use nandroid manager with it. however even though i have my own recovery i still use twrp and goo manager on my devices (twrp is pretty awesome :p).

since you are rooted getting either cwm or twrp is a breeze, use either goo manager or rom manager to flash the respective recovery.

What happens is this:

I open ROM Manager and click Recovery Setup

It tells me to get started I need to set up a custom recovery

Under Install or Update I click Clockwork Mod (only choice)

Then Im supposed to select my phone but its not listed

So I clickthe "phone not listed" part and then it says:

SGH-M919N does not have an officially supported Clockwork Mod Recovery yet. Have you installed a clockwork mod based recovery mnaully?

If I click no, it says :

Sorry,! Until CWM Recovery is available, ROM Manager will not work with SGH0-M919N

If I click yes, i have to choose between version 2.x or 3.x+

I tried selecting 2x but all that did was change my version in rom mnager to read as 2.x.x.x (but didnt actually download anything

thats cuz i need to have koush update rom manager, for the mean time just pick the tmobile sgs4. the metropcs sgs4 is literally the same device as the tmo one with a new model number, after talking with the cm folk it seems they arent going to make a seperate build, just adding support to the tmobile one

Since that is not on the list in ROM Manager either, can I just download it manually from the CWM/Rom Manager website, and use Odin?

(And if so, is it the same settings in Odin as the directions from yesterday?

If the answers to both of those questions are "yes" I think I should be good to go.

Thank you for everything!

Please let me know and Ive already made my thank-you-donation!

i saw that, thank you very much :)

rom manager support will be up later today, talked with gweedo. and dees_troy about twrp/goo manager. so hopefully in the next few days you only have to worry about picking the metropcs version for ya :)

but to answer your questions yes you can install cwm like that just not from his site, youll need it in odin tar which should be on xda

that when you install rom manager and tell it to flash cwm you can pick the tmobile/metropcs variant :)

after consulting with the cm guys they arent even going to do a separate cyanogenmod build for the metropcs versions, you guys will be expected to flash the tmobile roms.

could you do me a favor and pull /system/etc/apn-config.xml

thanks, and no there wont be any updates as far as you can tell, you are best off uninstalling it and reinstalling it tomorrow and choosing tmobile sgs4 as the recovery.

this phone is so tmobile they dont even mention metropcs in the apn's to connect to data :/
:rolleyes::hahaha::rofl:

Well in a way that sucks for some metro customers, Some have stated that right now they get a great metro 4G LTE signal but tmo signal is nonexistent or very bad.

To be honest that would be my problem too, at my home tmo signal is -96dBm for hspa and -114dBm for LTE while metro is much stronger.
