Root Back to stock?

My main motivation for rooting my Boost Mobile One SV was to swap "phone storage" (pathetic 4gb) and SD Card (much more reasonable 32gb), so that apps such as Google Music, etc would not cause my phone to run out of space within the first week.

However, since rooting, I seem to behaving difficulty getting aloof the other pieces to work smoothly. The latest issue I'm having with the not-so-stock JB update is that my Bluetooth no longer works.

The upshot of all of this is that I'm now wondering if there is any way back to stock? I'm guessing it would involve flashing various boot/recovery images etc, but would one of you kind folks care to elaborate if this is even possible, and If so, how one would go about making it happen?

You can go back to ics and still keep root, you can flash Jmztaylor's ics rom but you need to have a cwm for ics.

Its mostly stock with some of the bloatware removed, everything seems to work fine.

I forgot to mention you can use an app like foldermount to move things to the SD card like games.

Thanks, I was hoping for completely stock... I'll think about it and give it a try.

Also regarding the SD card, with root, I found that the smoother way was just to swap my mount points. It seems to work much nicer than folder mount and was really easy (edit /etc/vold.fstab, change entry names, create a ext_sdcard folder on my external SD card, and reboot)

My file looks like this and I'm on jb.


dev_mount sdcard /storage/sdcard0 emmc /devices/platform/msm_sdcc.1/mmc_host
dev_mount sdcard2 /storage/sdcard0/ext_sd auto /devices/platform/msm_sdcc.3/mmc_host

I modified the last two lines in vold.fstab from:
dev_mount sdcard /storage/sdcard0 emmc /devices/platform/msm_sdcc.1/mmc_host
dev_mount sdcard2 /storage/sdcard0/ext_sd auto /devices/platform/msm_sdcc.3/mmc_host

to:
dev_mount sdcard2 /storage/sdcard0 auto /devices/platform/msm_sdcc.3/mmc_host
dev_mount sdcard /storage/sdcard0/ext_sd emmc /devices/platform/msm_sdcc.1/mmc_host

Then rebooted and:
1. Used Storage settings to erase "phone memory" (now external SD Card)
2. Created /mnt/sdcard/ext_sd folder
3. Erased "sd card" (now internal SD card)
4. Remounted "sd card"

So your flashable zip over at XDA will do the same thing for our JB? If so that'll be awesome! Nothing to manually edit. Just flash in recovery and go.


EDIT: I just read the entire thread and it looks like it may work by flashing the zip. Hmmm, I may just have to give this a try later on tonight.

Yes, but backup is always appreciated, cause someone has always be the first tester. But it should work for you.

Anyhow, back on track: Could anyone possibly provide a step by step for "back to stock" (ie what files to get and what order to flash in etc, and if there are links to the files, that would be totally awesome!)

Its not working for me on jb, it says my SD is the main storage but keeps flashing everything to the 1gb internal memory

Ive gone back to ICS because i absolutely need voice mail and bluetooth working. I tried to download the OTA and install it by going back to stock (JMZ Taylors ROM) flashed back to stock recovery using ADB, to no avail. It will download the update, but it fails on install. I'm wondering if it is because of the issues that rom has with the wiper app, and the Qualcomm app? any help is greatly appreciated.

You would have to have the stock recovery and flash the stock ota and relock the bootloader.

to flash ota. u will need to flash a stock ics boost nandroid and flash stock recovery and kernel. jmz rom is not a full nandroid i believe. there can not be any missing system apps ie bloatware. bootloader does not need to be relock tho ota will lock it after flashing.

sorry but im a cricket user. hopefully someone can find a boost ics stock phone then flash a recovery and make a nandroid backup before flashing anything. someone has to have one. ask either jmz or simon or shinru. they should have a clean boost nandroid with every file intact. if u find a nandroid wipe cache/dalvik cache and flash nandroid then boot into android and do a factory reset. flash stock recovery then try ota. bootloader doesnt need to be locked.
