My e-mail exchange with Allstate Motor Club

So I was on the Allstate Motor Club site yesterday for the first time in ages, and kept seeing their "get the app!" link. I thought, gee, that'd be nice to have an app on my phone so I don't have to pull my card out of my wallet if I need help on the road. And I clicked on the link. I went to install it. It took me to the Apple app store. I thought perhaps I'd selected the wrong link...somehow. I backed up, looked carefully, saw no other link, so I chose it again. No, there really wasn't an Android app.

Knowing me, my big mouth, and my devotion to Android, it shouldn't be surprising that I fired off a quick e-mail:

MESSAGE:

I must be blind! I don't see your app for Android phones. You know, Android, the MOST WIDELY used mobile OS in the world. So where is it?
:D

Here's the reply I received:

Dear [me],

Thank you for contacting our office.

We regret to state that at present the roadside assistance app is available only on the Blackberry and iphone.

We are diligently working to bring the app soon to a wide variety of mobile devices. Please check on http://roadsidemobile.com/amc/index.do at a later date to verify whether Android has been added.

You are a valued member and we look forward to being of continued service to you. If we can be of any further assistance, please feel free to contact our office at 1-800-347-8880.

Sincerely,

Member Services
Allstate Motor Club

WELL! :aetsch:

That just means Android users are better drivers. ;)
:D Gotcha, but don't lose sight of the fact that although some of us are good drivers, we do inexplicably stupid things like let our batteries die from forgetting to start up our vehicles. EVERY single time I've made use of my Allstate MC membership it's been getting a jump in my driveway. (Nasty minded people...yeah, I know.)

<-- Allstate customer since 1975.
That's approximately how long I've had Allstate, too. Now that I'm a homeowner again (thanks, Mom), I get the multi-policy discount again. Homeowners, earthquake, umbrella, auto, and motor club. Whew!

Yeah, we get the multiple discount, too, but Earthquake? You must be on the left coast. ;)
Yes indeed. Because the only other house I ever owned was in Texas, I never had to have an earthquake policy. But homeowners does NOT cover damage caused by earthquakes, so you either pay for the extra policy or you're on your own when The Big One hits and your house crumbles to dust.

BTW, the deductible on my earthquake policy is ~$25,000.

But nothing dampens my feelings of being *THIS* glad to be home in California, though. :D

Know the insurance game well. Floods are not covered by homeowners here unless you have the flood rider, but you can't get the flood rider unless you live in a flood plane. So ... if, as happens frequently, we get heavy rains or a tropical system (like Sandy) not only isn't flooding covered, but you couldn't get coverage even if you wanted it.

It's always nice to be *home*.:)

I can't help but chuckle because of your Android Avatar.

Long LONG story about that .... okay, maybe not that long. Let me just say "Pieter Bruegel the Elder."

Thanks. I lived in other states for what seems an eternity, finally coming back home in 2006. I know one thing for sure: I'll NEVER live anywhere else again. (Well, maybe Paris... :))

I'd do Paris in a heartbeat, but the wife won't have it. So, I'll have to retire to Amsterdam and take the train into Paris on weekends. Yeah, That would work. :D

When we had our house in the north Dallas area, we could have gotten flood insurance but chose not to. It was a gamble, but it worked out okay. :) Our property sloped toward the street in front. The backyard and the house were level, but the front yard sloped down. So when torrential downpours would hit...as they do CONSTANTLY throughout the spring and summer (hey, they don't call it Tornado Alley for nothing!), the backyard looked like a lake, but with a stream running past the house and down to the street. We had done our research before buying the house, and there had NEVER been flooding in the area, so we felt pretty safe.

It's always nice to be *home*.:)
You're not kidding. I never lost my identity as a Californian, but BEING home is very different from identifying as from home, you know? :D
