The (maybe) "Epic" Motorola X Pre-Release Thread

Do you guys think it will be a major hit or not? I'll have to admit that I'm one of those guys who definitely leans toward the "high specs is all that matters" mentality as I thought this would make phones as future proof as possible. As a result, I initially neglected this phone and tunnel visioned my way towards getting the Nexus 5.

It depends on how you define a quality experience. Let's use the example of cars. If sheer raw power is important to you and you can afford the price tag, then a Mustang or Corvette is something you should buy. (Phones Galaxy S4 or HTC 1).

If sport tuners attract you because of the customization potential that makes them more powerful and adding things like neon lights thrill you, you're going to gravitate toward something like a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo or Acura Integra. (Phones Nexus series)

If you're the kind who needs rugged toughness because you have a demanding rough job, you're in the market for a Ford F250 or Dodge Ram. (Phones Galaxy S4 Active, Sony Xperia Z)

If you're the kind that just needs something that works to get you point A to point B, then you're probably driving that Geo Metro or Chevy Chevette to the ground. Yeah, it may have rust, but it gets you there. (Phones anything Pantech).

If you need something more reliable with some fuel economy but can't afford to pay top dollar but yet something with nice features, you're looking at getting a Ford Focus or Chevy Cobalt. (Phones: Hopefully the Moto X will fit into this category or you're going to get last year's Galaxy S3).

And if you are that stuck up person who just needs a statement piece that says, "I have money," or, "I'm spoiled:" You're probably looking at a BMW or Aston Martin. (Phones the latest iteration of the iPhone or a Gold Plated HTC One)

The great thing about Android is that there is something for everyone. Me, I'm in the category where I need a phone more reliable than the Pantech Breakout I had and newer than the OG Droid I'm using now. If the Moto X comes in at the $199-$299 off contract price, then that's what I'm going for. It's something that fits my needs right out the gate.

There's a lot of cool stuff going on with the software of the Moto X and it will have some pretty nice features. But if it doesn't meet your wants/needs, look elsewhere. But don't wait for the perfect phone, because that won't come.

Sorry, I get long fingered. In short, lots of Android phones for everty taste :smokingsomb:

I read about a new business model for phones, one I think Moto X is going to pioneer.

Make phones like Moto X or the SGS4, same specs only priced on the low end. Then have signature models or elite models that have better materials and special features.

Those are mighty small pixels. The new array may help but digital noise will determine if the camera is a winner. Would have liked to hear an F/2.0 leak for the aperture.

Have to wait and see.

Unfortunately, unless Google has improved the standard camera software by allowing you to save images with a choice for less compression, as found on Camera JB+ for example, the early reviews won't really tell us what images it's capable of producing.

So is this what a lot of people are going to from the gnex? i'm sort of stuck between this, htc one, s4, and the motorola droids. really want a phone with a huge battery.

Huge battery? You might want to wait for the Ultra Maxx. You won't have to wait long since there is an event next week for the Ultra phones.

Me personally? I'm waiting to hear about the Ultras and considering the Moto X and S4. If there were proof that the Nexus 5 would be on Verizon I would wait for it. And if it does show up on Verizon I may sell whatever phone I end up with and go with it instead.

I have a 2000 mAh battery on my LTEvo - S4, 4.7" 720p screen.

Out of the box I got 8 hours of screen on time while streaming video over wifi. I always get 6 to 8 hours of screen on time (no 4G, don't know).

Even with the S4 Pro processor, I'd expect this to do as well.

I don't trust the size comparison -

Using the old ruler on the screen trick, the screen is far smaller than the 4.7" screen on the HTC One.

So - either the X doesn't have a 4.7" screen or that comparison is bit off - or that's the upcoming One MegaWhatever.

Hello again AF!

I'm one of the people from the GNex forums and yes, this is likely the device I will look to get once I can leave the death grip of Verizon.

The promises of the camera and that @evleaks tweet about the 2200 mAh battery are really intriguing. That would address two of the major complaints of the GNex (that and Verizon), so I'm ready to take this to a carrier like T-Mobile.

I have to wonder about if there will be a "Nexus 5" sold in the Play Store and if those specs would be more on the high end. Either way, my next device is coming direct from Google.
