I know I saw a picture on Reddit from someone that had the phone and was answering questions and there was a tape measure on the screen and it was 4.5".

I have been reading about half of the rumors saying 4.5 as well, but the other half saying 4.7.

Also I love the white and that would be the color I go with if I get this baby, but did anyone else think the front of the white one looks like it has a bumper or case on it? I know it doesn't but that was the first thought I had.

Edit: Actually I think I would like the black on the front and white on the back, like Eric Schmidt had. I usually hate the black front and then a white back, but his looked pretty good that way, especially not having buttons on the front.

Why have they chosen that size u think? Cost?

Using the old ruler on the screen trick, the screen is far smaller than the 4.7" screen on the HTC One.

So - either the X doesn't have a 4.7" screen or that comparison is bit off - or that's the upcoming One MegaWhatever.

It IS 4.7." Discussions about those pics on reddit and on xda come to that conclusion, which coincides with the opinion of the person who posted and measured in person (i know it looked like 4.5 in some of the pics, hence the need for the discussions).

as for the picture, i think the difference between the One and the X screens may be different widths, but still 4.7 diagonal. The black rectangles below represent the sizes of just the screens (inluding the soft keys where applicable).

And if it's a 720p screen, then it must be 16x9 by definition and therefore the same screen dimensions all the way around as an HTC One, One X, etc etc.

And I did include the full screen with buttons on my screen test.

Double check me, I didn't get the same diagonal.

yea it really depends on the app you're using.

but i got the situation under control with an hide nav bar app (because even though hide nav is built into my ROM, it has its own quirks that make it not so user friendly for games for example).

like anything else android, after lots of tinkering, and provided you're rooted, you can solve any problems, even the very basic ones. for my next phone i'd prefer hardware buttons.

I kind of like the white just in how clean it is, but to me.. kinda always identifies with iPhone / Apple product line.

2200 mAh battery is a bit disappointing. More than a bit disappointing. Only a marginal improvement over GNex's extended battery - which I feel like is barely adequate. Maybe it's that my battery is just old. In any event, pretty far short of 3000+ on the Razr.

We'll see what all drops on August 1st...

Yeah, I was hoping for a little more screen real estate than 4.7". I mean the GNex has 4.65", so whoo hoo at what little I'd gain. Still slobbering to see a fall/winter Verizon roadmap to see what's in the pipeline, but right now the Moto X, LG G2, and Nexus 5 are my 3 dream machines.

I removed the HTC One Max from the list because HTC is notoriously bad at supporting their devices.

Power management on these newer devices is amazing. I just got the S4, and was a but concerned with it only having a 2200 mAh battery and a bigger screen than my GNex. But, better radios, and other internal workings help the battery last longer. A couple of differences I noticed:
First week with my GNex, "Holy s***, the battery sucks on this thing! What can I do to get more life out of this thing?"
First week with my S4, "Huh? I haven't had to undervolt, lower display brightness, or turn off LTE. I'm finishing the day with 40% battery remaining. Aliens."

To a degree, I suppose. But it's not out of the ordinary. Colors and palettes are very much a part of branding / brand identity. My main professional background being auto racing there are certain color combinations which become linked with a certain team or brand for decades. Apple I feel like have certainly become aligned with this "pure white" in their devices, commercials, etc. On the up side it's very clean and crisp in its own right. On the down side I think they're also inescapably linked to this faux wood and aluminum motif in their software which looks like ass.

Interesting. A different perspective, but for me.. I say thank goodness it's "only" 4.7". I don't want this to be substantially bigger than the GNex. Again, for me, mobility and battery life are big. I think that's the whole point of having a mobile phone. The extra screen size is a nice-to-have (to a point, obviously, for ergonomics) but the battery life and mobility are need-to-haves.

So as smartphones have progressed, knowing that the #1 battery drain tends to be the screen.. every time I see a big screen size increase I immediately think, "Damn.. this better have at LEAST a proportional amount more juice to go with" and usually that isn't the case. So I end up with a bigger screen and no more (potentially even less) usage time, which winds up being a turn off.

also, don't know if this was mentioned already, but the moto X doesn't have sd card and I think only comes with 16gb. The g2 is too big for me; i'm a smaller guy. And chances of nexus coming to verizon are slim. There are some higher end moto phones coming later in the year though.

i'm curious why the droid maxx isn't on your radar?

The Droid line is the most notorious for having a locked-down bootloader and tons of bloatware. I guess VZW needs to weigh it down with bloat to help pay the licensing royalties to Disney (formerly Uncle George) for the "Droid" name.

Unless I have a pretty good shot at unlocking, rooting and ROMming a phone, I have little interest in it.

Don't get me wrong: I think the Ultra Maxx will be a beast of a phone, and quite capable for a long time to come. I'll just have to wait and see about it.

The G2 would be the perfect size for me at a 5.2" screen: a little more than the Galaxy Nexus, not nearly the behemoth size of a Note. I'd love it. Whatever I get, though, SD-card slot or not: I HAVE to have at least 32GB, if not 64.

i share your concerns about the rootability of the droid. a couple things i'm seeing though is that the moto stock rom, although may have the unwanted apps, is otherwise very close to pure android. Given that, I may not feel the need to root and tinker as much. Most of my tinkering with the gnex have been to improve speed, reception, and battery life. I think i may be ok if the phone has those features as standard.

if i do need to root and rom, looking at the droid razrs and the razrs hd, they have all been rooted, romed and bootloader unlocked. though there is less development for these
