New Google Maps - Navigate Home? (and other issues)

I just downloaded the newest version of Maps for Verizon Galaxy Nexus.

When I say "navigate home", it used to automatically start navigating to my apartment.

Now, it brings up a list of options. I can only see the first option without scrolling. When I select it, it takes me to another screen where I have to hit "start" or something before navigation actually begins.

Is that right, or am I missing something?

I also don't know where layers are. I see that it automatically shows some businesses and traffic.

Also, at one point I got stuck and couldn't get to navigation at all from the directions that were pulled up. I had clicked the 'X' at the bottom of the navigation screen. It took me back to directions and only gave me the option to 'preview' the route (or whatever it called it). I had to go back to the original app and click on the 'directions' link there before Maps would bring up the 'start' button for navigation again. Also, sometimes the address I was previously navigating to would show up in the list to search, but when i clicked it - the auto-filled address from a previous navigation - Maps would say it couldn't find any results for that address... WTF?

Biggest thing I hate about the update is you have no access to "my maps." I have a map with several locations for various things marked (off roading, shooting pits, etc) where there is no address so I can't star them on the main map.

If they're not still saved when you tap on the little people icon in the map search bar (Nearby Saved Places), then you can create it manually by holding your fingertip directly on the map for the location you want to save. When that location appears on the bottom of the screen in the white banner, tap it and then tap the star to save the location. It should then be saved to your Nearby Saved Places.

They are saved, I can access "my maps" on a computer, just not on a mobile app.

After looking around a bit, it would appear that My Maps "wasn't quiet ready" for the new roll-out of Google Maps. Pretty sure that means it'll be added at a later date (like the beta bits they had in Labs.. probably add again at a later date).

I sure hope so because that is a really useful feature (at least I use it a lot)

In the Play store, Uninstall says it will uninstall all updates to the app. Is it possible to just get back to the last version before this big change?

Mine is now on 6.14.3 and it's working great. If yours should go back to an earlier version, you can always google "Google Maps x.x.x apk" where you replace the x by the version you want.

Just make sure that you obtain it from a reputable source.

Just make sure that you obtain it from a reputable source.

Reputable and legitimate source is the key here. Please be very careful because downloading .apk files, even from sources that have not given you problems in the past is a security risk that you take and an infringement of the developers copyright.

We know these sites exist and most likely will continue to proliferate, but Android Forums does not condone the practice so we'd appreciate them not mentioned here.

Now back to your regularly scheduled thread.
