Help Battery discharge issue

My S2 has been very strange in the last two days. I have a big 2000mAH battery. The phone is unrooted. After charging to 100%, both yesterday and today the phone was down to 18% charge in only two hours! This was with the screen off and no use of the phone at all!

So today I put in my previous 1650mAH battery. It started at 59% charge and I charged it to 100%. Then once again with screen off and no use of the phone, this battery also discharged down to 19% in two hours!! What the?

Is there likely to be something seriously wrong with my phone?- that it is discharging batteries so fast with nothing specifically happening to cause this discharge -of two batteries?

Hello and welcome, Annieliese.

Check in your battery usage feature in the main settings menu; it'll tell you what is using the battery. Usually it's the screen, then wifi and gps, various syncing apps, etc.

Sudden drain can be a defective charging circuit and may be in need of replacement or repair.

Have you made any big changes recently? New widgets, launcher, apps which sync automatically? You could have a syncing loop happening with things such as Facebook, Weather, Gmail, etc. I see by another post you made that you've been bothered by a lot of nags for downloads from Go Launcher. You may want to revert to the default launcher and test for the battery problem after making that change.

Thanks for your quick response. No nothing new has occurred with any aspect of my phone recently. I do not use Facebook or any other syncing apps except Gmail and I have had that on the phone since I first got it in December 2011. The Go Launcher problem was solved quite a while ago and is unrelated to this issue. I never have GPS on and syncing never varies for me so I am puzzled. It could not be the screen as that was not on at all. I am afraid that as you mention -it could be a defective charging circuit. I have already emailed my phone company about my problem. I am afraid they will fob me off by suggesting a factory reset. This is unlikely to help me.
