Eris to Iphone?

With the confirmed note that the next iphone will be making its way to verizon, do any of you think you will be switching?

No way. I was an early iPhone 3G user, then traded up to the 3Gs.

After using Android on the Eris for six months, I would never go back to Apple's closed system. Android is far more customizable than Apple's.

I've got an Incredible on order, and can't wait.

IMHO, Android is the future of mobile devices.

No, I have nothing against the IPhone but I love Android. I have an Ipod touch and I liked it but when I got my eris I realised how restrictive the ipod touch is. I am sure the IPhone can't be any better.

I just googled it and only found that Verizon told Apple that they WANT the iphone.

As far as I know, it's only been rumored. They have yet to say something officially, but many news sites are reporting it is rumored to either leave AT&T as a whole or go to multiple carriers. VZW has to be at the top of the list because of its size and superior infrastructure.

That is the main reason I'm sticking with Android. I love how I can customize my phone and especially love using widgets.

IMHO, Android is the future of mobile devices.

As much as I would like that to be true the Iphone is way to popular and way to user friendly to go away. Plus I don't think there will ever be an end all be all smartphone.

As with anything, these rumors come from someplace. I think people factor in that the current agreement with AT&T allegedly either expires or is up for renewal (depending on who you ask) in early June and that AT&T is on the Nexus One and people add 2 + 2 and get 6...

Personally I like the Iphone and how everything "just works" and think that VZW will get it at some point. I would seriously consider making the switch.

A friend claimed a few weeks ago that he saw on CNN that the iPhone had gone into production for Verizon. I think he misheard what they were saying, or CNN could have been speculating.

Yeah there was a rumor floating around on the net (CNN.com) that they would announce the VZW Iphone during the IPAD announcement...

They even threw out the month of June as a release!

The internet was buzzing that morning...funny because Apple's stock fell 3% that day after no announcement was made! (coincidence?)

There is a more recent rumor (from a month or so ago) that Verizon has a second Chinese company making an iPhone with a CDMA radio for as early as September, though it is doubted that it is for Verizon or Sprint; many speculate that it is for a Chinese CDMA provider.

I've never owned an iPhone, but I do like them. iPhone OS 4 looks like a decent multitasking model. I use Macs anyway, so I can go either iPhone or Android. There are things that I love about Android, but things that I don't like, too.

it all depends with me. ive always liked the idea of an iphone because it has an ipod built into it and thats what ive always wanted. having 1 device instead of an ipod and a phone. i know my droid can hold music but it doesnt exactly sync with itunes and i have much more than 8gb in my music library and dont feel like shelling out the cash to buy a bigger SD card.

i hear alot about how "closed source" apple's products are, especially the iphone, but i really dont see how that has affected my opinion on it. there's always some sort of workaround, legal or illegal. the iphone's touch screen is also a ton smoother than any other touch screen ive ever seen.

really the only downsides the iphone has to me are the inability to change the battery and not being able to upgrade flash memory, oh and the inability to run more than one app at the same time (which i hear is being fixed with the new iPhone 4G)

if someone could explain to me exactly how the iphone is more restricting id like to hear it, cos i really dont see how it is.

from what I've heard and seen the new OS doesn't have real multitasking but its more like app switching. Android has real multitasking

Well its kind of an interesting topic. Imo its going to be a windows vs mac os kind of war. The only difference is the mac os in this case has the head start. But imo they could end up stumbling if the android continues to gain speed at the rate it is currently. Until the iPhone is available on verizon theres millions of us that have no choice but to be on android, once we are given that choice it will be interesting to see what happens. Its been easy pickings for google and the android platform so far, but once the big bully shows up to the party it could be a different story. I can see a good number of android users switching, but i can also see defectors from the iPhone coming to android, however i think we'll lose more users than we gain. The real problem for google will be luring those from other platforms, something apple is already excelling at. Right now i don't care if the iPhone ever comes to verizon and for the sake of the android platform i sorta wish it wouldn't come to verizon, but thats not up to us. I have a feeling the android platform will always be second fiddle to the iPhone, even though i do not wish that were the case. But if google can work closely with hardware manufacturers and software developers things could really heat up, but its something they need to get done now and not 6 months from now. They need to act today and really put up a good fight, or else the way it is now is how it will always be.

Well put and I agree...this is the biggest advantage I can see for Apple, they make the hardware and the OS while the Android OS is spread among several manufacturers and carriers.

I dont really consider android to have true multi tasking
The iphone has app switching and that's basically what i do when i press home and switch back and forth between my six apps on my eris...

Personally, I am actually doing a lot better with my eris then i was at past when I saw the alternative crap out there...i.e blackberry(i'm sure some read my thread)

I originally loved android on the droid and kind of on the eris but i think my next phone would be an iphone now that I did some thinking about it.

Android just isn't there to me and the fragmentation and different skins is annoying the crap out of me because i want to get the best android phone yet it seems with sense phones they seem to have and lack features that some phones with blur or vanilla have so i dont like the settling and confusion of android

Well for me it boils down to where each os is right now. The apple os is more polished and you don't have the same issues you do with the android os. Apps not working on your phone is one big turn off for anyone. Thats where apple has excelled to this point. Also a number of apple apps tend to use their hardware to further potential than the android counterpart. Meaning its easier to expoit the strengths of the iphone platform than it is for the android. But overall i find the android has apps that are more useful in general. Certain tools i can't seem to find on the ipod touch/iphone app store that are available for the android, even though i know they must exist in some form, i just can't locate them to save my life. I think eventually i probably will jump ship but its not going to be for a couple years. Of course in 2 years the tide could have switched and i'd be more than happy to stay with the platform i've gotten used to. I guess it really depends on how much android can advance itself in comparison to apples platform. Maybe within 2 years i'll be prefectly happy, but for now i see alot of holes that need to be filled in both platforms. But google has the money and man power to get things done, so i won't say its not possible for them to push ahead of apple, its just going to take alot of hard work and a clear direction for the entire platform to move in. Either way i'm an android user for at least 2 more years. My incredible will be here on thursday, so i'm excited, but i'm not neive enough to think it will be the final frontier either

I'd consider IPhone... The problem is that I have taken an IPhone, compared transitions, ease of use, UI, and responsiveness of Apps, and if it had a full GPS app complete with voice navigation (considering the money was the same), I'd be REALLY tempted.

I'm not a Mac fanboi (quite the opposite, actually), but the current IPhone is extremely polished, whereas the Android is still a bit of a touch and go OS.

I'm with my Eris for the next year and a half to 2 years, so it's going to depend on a lot of different things in the near future... carrier 4G roll-out and coverage being the main one for me. Carrier plan pricing at that time is almost tied with it, but hey, I want what I want. Coming in after that is what Android and iPhone OS's are able to offer a that point... Android should be up to 2.x or maybe even 3.x and iPhone should be around it's 5th generation. Is the Android Market on par with the iPhone app store at that point? Is the iPhone app store even more locked down and restricted by then? How will Google and Adobe implement Flash and AIR on Android? Will it be viable? How will Apple's patent litigation with HTC (and really Google's Android) turn out? Will WP7 prove to be a contender? How about Palm's possible buy out and where WebOS might wind up?
And... will the person that was able to put Android on the iPhone be able to put the latest Android software on the latest iPhone hardware at that time or will Steve Jobs find a way to put a chastity belt on his baby because of it?
Will I even have a job to afford anything more then a Jitterbug at that point?
I have to say... the idea of Android 3.0 running on an iPhone 5G using a 4G network does sound intriguing.
