Look and see if your phone will be affected by this
This morning, UPS delivered a letter from Metro. I imagine these are being sent to all the area stores/dealers:
"Due to the LTE network integration between MetroPCS and T-Mobile some phone models may experience an incompatibility issue that causes them to lose 4G LTE data connectivity. These phones will need a free software update in order to maintain optimum performance."

"Customers who do not have the latest software version may experience loss of 4G LTE data after July 31st, 2013."

Inside was a microSD card for installing onto phones that can't be updated via OTA.

I immediately updated the store's demo phone, which had been experiencing intermittent connectivity issues for several days which, of course, was taking a toll on the battery, as well as making the phone feel hot.

Since then, data connectivity has been consistent, the phone doesn't feel hot, and the battery isn't draining so quickly.

If you have a Coolpad Quattro, Huawei Activa, LG Connect, LG Esteem, Samsung Craft, Samsung Galaxy Indulge, Samsung Galaxy Attain, or Samsung Galaxy S Lightray, your phone may be affected and may need to be updated.

Correct.

Here's the list of affected models and the latest SW version:
Coolpad Quattro: Coolpad-5860E-AA083
Huawei Activa: M920V100R001C177B324SP01
LG Connect: MS840ZVA
LG Connect (VoLTE): MS840VVE
LG Esteem: MS910ZVE
Samsung Craft: S/W V. R900.DJ07 | LTE S/W V. R900.EF23A
Samsung Galaxy Attain: CDMA: R920.03 M.FG02 | LTE: SCH-R920.GE01
Samsung Galaxy Indulge: CDMA: R910.0.4M.GE06 | LTE: SCH-R910.GE01
Samsung Galaxy S Lightray: CDMA: R940.0.4MGE01 | LTE: SCH-R940.GE01

I never got anything mailed to me but I got txt and voicemails, They advised I go the the store and have it done. I did, it took an hour and half and the guy said I would lose most of my information. I lost nothing and still getting texts, I called Metro and they don't know if it was done. They said go back, I went yesterday and they said it was a 3 hour wait....Is there anything I can check to see if the update was done??? I do believe there is a issue because I cannot load the BHTV app I ells me I must have a 4g phone.....this is a 4g.. even though Brighthouse cable says my phone is equipped for it (bhtv is live cable tv)

I updated to ZVE, on the lg site with the update tool, I too keep getting voicemails from Metro. Is my phone already done, or do I still need to take it to the metro store. I lost root when I updated, but it is now rooted and using the stock de-oxed and bloatware removed from that master Ldrifta. can someone let me know, I don't want to have to go if I don't need to,

it will unroot your phone. it wont brick a rooted phone by updating. You can brick it if you don't follow the steps and have all the file right. but even then I or other people (in the esteem forum) can help you unbrick.

or if you are on stock rom, just unroot flash stock recovery, remove super user and ANY other rooted apps.
and take it to metro for the update. if you feel safer with them doing it.

I personally know more than the guys at my metro store, so I do it myself.
head here for help. Honestly theres no need to post and ask, all the info, steps, programs, and files are here http://androidforums.com/esteem-all-things-root/460450-lg-esteem-all-things-root-guide.html

I've never really used the stock ROM for any length of time. But what I have seen and heard is it blows. Lags, slow boot times, and numerous bugs. I have love the development in the customs ROMs for this device. I've ran Ldriftas, Dover, and PlayfulGods software, tweaks, kernals, and Roms and don't have any issues.

I'll hold out as long as I can waiting for this CM10, with fingers crossed.

Esteem handles everything I do on it, and works great. I see no need to get the newest handset because it's got more RAM and faster chipset.

I have however had to turn in my esteem twice for warranty issue. Once after a nandroid backup. the other was after I flashed CM10 and then restored back to ROM#2.
Both times the memory chipset (that retains the PRL and programming info) somehow failed or got fried. So every time I booted it was blank as far as the antenna info.

but I'm pretty sure that was caused by my old malware and virus infected PC via usb.

after a factory HDD reset, with nothing else installed, I have never had issues flashing, or pushing via ADB/commander/USB

Everyone has problems with the update but your phone will pop up with the update it takes ten minutes . But also the update go a little further than that what the store is doing and a store told me its best that u do the update . Now its a update to the lg tool the tool has a driver update this driver update is for the modem hook up . Now if any dont know what this control . Ril . Yes it control the radios . Now the update is a problem if u stay on the os but if you root its good . The lg os rom lag and the keyboard forceclose . But when u root and put the zve #2 works like a charm no lag .

Yes you will but if you have your contacts backed up to your gmail and have root(you can backup all apps and messages with titani backup) then you have nothing to worry about. :)
