Why is there a second forum now for the hero. Its just a place to duplicate advice as far as I can see. There may be a CDMA chip in it and a slightly different cover but its the same phone. All information is relevant to both phones. The manual is almost identical. The problems are the same (brutally illustrated by the first few posts on it). Is this a competitive thing?

Instead of making one post to ask a question you need to make two now to ensure all users have seen it. Plus you have to look in two places to find the same info which is a waste of time. Its like emailing everyone you know in a CC box of an email when its only about the person in the to field.... Pointless.

Most importantly it's a US-specific model. IMO it makes a lot of sense to provide a similarly-specific forum for questions and information.

Trouble is, like here many posts are not device specific - just happen to come from owner of forum device- so it makes things more muddled in some ways?

In some ways maybe yes, in others no. I'm thinking of the thread asking about the best US deals.... within a day it was full of UK-specific info of no relevance to the OP. Ditto carrier-specific stuff like email/mms setup. I don't think the idea is to remove all posts about the Sprint Hero.

But info on vodafone/orange/rodgers/carphone warehouse etc is relevant to everyone?

I am happy to ignore non relevant posts here. If another US carrier gets the hero are we going to go through the same process?
Also I'm certain that we arnt all from the UK here. Lets be open with everyones market. Knowing certain MMS/email settings for the us could benifit us all.

This will need the moderators help in making sure both forums are as relevent as possible (please).

I have an idea....if one doesnt have the Sprint Hero dont go to that section...if one has a Sprint Hero and one wishes to look at the area not specific to Sprint then go...and vice versa...freedom of choice...

Forums by nature have information that is so scattered and must be searched for anyway most of the time that I dont think this is a huge issue...

Yes, I am a Sprint Hero customer...

At first i thought it was a bad idea, but the more i think about it the more it makes sense. It does nicely separate US specific issues from UK/EU ones.

Besides, a lot of the posts on the hero forum are actually about android in general rather than being unique to the hero itself, so should the hero forum be merged with the other android phones forums?

Any useful info will cross pollenate back and forth pretty quickly, as it already does into here from the other android phone forums. No big deal.

In an ideal world yes - but in reality there will be a lot over overlap and everyone will browse both forums anyway just in case they miss something.

I've just discovered there is a T-mobile G2 thread too. Top question "why two forums" So in fact there are now three forums with the same advice. And for those people still worried about sprint only info. There is another whole forum for that carrier.

Im not really moaning but to have one forum for the hero derived devices would benefit everyone and would be one place to see the info not 6.

Its like good email management.

I have actually chatted up in this very forum, prior to the Sprint forums being made up.

My suggestion was to Rob was to create sub-forums for CDMA & GSM since there will be some difference, but also some that GMS owners would be able to answer, he opted for a whole new section. You can see that in the suggestion area.

All that its really doing is giving the (soon to be) Sprint Hero owners a place to talk about their excitement, discoveries and newness to the OS without cluttering up the GSM forums and maknig things confusing.

We have a thread over there about accessories, and lets be honest, Im sure there are great accessories for the GSM version, but some things (cases) just wont fit the Sprint model. Which is where things would get confusing.

Of course its either that, or every thread created would need a GSM, CDMA, SPRINT or some other "Tag" in the title of the post to avoid confusion.
