Tethering Tip using Seamonkey

If you are having trouble tethering without a tethering plan and are tired of having to switch user agents or can only get mobile websites to load then try this method. So far i have tested this on Mac and Windows and both seem to be working flawless. Download and install the Seamonkey browser. Then open the browser. In the url line type about:config then click the button that says ill be careful i promise. Then in the bar that says search type user. Now find the line that says "general.useragent.compatMode.firefox" click on it to change the toggle from true to false. If everything was done correctly you will now have a fully functioning browser.

Not sure if they can or not but I have been tethering for a good six months now. Also I have never known anyone that has had anything said to them by metro.

you got unlimited hotspot bro and allow me to be your first one, I got a warning text in may saying i was in top five percent i would be throttled mind you i was pushing near 30 gb at least

there is no hotspot available on the $60 dollar plan through metro. the only way you can get it is by rooting and using a custom ROM. When you do this you have to use various methods to get internet working properly like the one i posted in this thread.

On windows for it to work properly yes you must change user agent on Ubuntu it just works. But ask online the reps will tell you. As for rooting and roming not nessary for my phone

I hotspot my tablets all the time and haven't gotten a warning yet though I don't abuse it. If I wasn't hotspotting I'd be using the same data, but on my phone and not my tablet. In other words I use it as a smartphone replacement and not a home internet replacement. Though there has been a couple times my home internet has gone out from storms and have used it in a pinch on the desktop.

Since the tablet also uses mobile browers the isp doesn't/can't distinguish between phone or tablet.

I would rather not use Mobile isp, as a land line is generally more consistent but in a pinch..

Normally i would agree but metro is so consistant i can even game on it lag free

That is quite strange i wonder if there browsers just got blocked. still tethering fine here.

You can connect to the phone network but the browser is redirected to MetroPCS webpage asking you to sign for a tether plan at an extra monthly cost.

I don't know if it worked in the past but according Metro webpage the 4G Mobile Hotspot is not included in any plan but a service that could be "added" to any plan for $5.00 a month.
