The (maybe) "Epic" Motorola X Pre-Release Thread

In all seriousness, my assumption is that they mean the front cover of the phone is seamless. In the past a screen was set into a bezel. In this case my understanding is that the front is unibody, and it will help to make it water resistant. in the picture with the phone halves apart you can kinda see what I am talking about. the front half looks like one solid component. I assume further that it will have Motos nano shield to further assist with water resistance. You will probably be able to pick your color options from Moto only and they will assemble it for you ... I doubt the end user is meant to pull the phone apart like it is in that photo.

Just a guess though.

After further pondering. It would almost HAVE to be that way. IF Moto gave the end user the option to remove the back as shown in the picture, why bother ordering it from Moto? Why bother waiting for it to be customized and shipped when you could go to your provider, buy the black one or white one or whatever, and then get on Amazon and buy any color back plate (or back plates) you wanted from any one of a billion knock off producers that would crop up literally over night? And probably for like $2.25 plus shipping.

Anyway, just thinking out loud.

I'm still thinking I want a white back with a black front. I love the white back for some reason.

Shows more texture, more visual appeal.

Personally, IF I have the option, I would like a white/deep dark blue or even better a nice dark slate gray/deep dark blue.
:D

Yes Moto hear me ... we want cool colors, not just pink, yellow and mint green, k?

Thanks!

BTW: Anybody notice the third button? Looks like on the right side is the standard power and volume rocker. But on the left side? I wonder. It could be a camera button, but if two shakes of the wrist open the camera, why would you need a dedicated button?

Looks like the SIM drawer to me?

Beautiful thing is, it will be very hard to go wrong with the Moto X. If it's $300 off contract and you DON'T like it, you can turn around and sell it without taking too much of a loss. And get something else.

Of course I'd prefer it have boss specs like the G2. But if the G2 really is impossibly locked down, I'll pass on it.

But let's say for the sake of argument that I jump on the X and then the G2 is workable and has a great developer community for it. Great! I'll pick up a G2 and sell the X. And not be out that much.

Works for me :D

I want this phone.

Unless something on Monday about the presentation really disappoints me?

I've said I would never get a phone if I can't remove the battery and here I am wanting one that is non removable.

Be prepared for a big disappointment on Monday. I thought the announcement was on August 1st? That is Thursday.

SGS4 = 5" 1080p Pentile

I've done a lot of reading on my phone and the SGS3 (Moon Reader+ ftw) - and from both being 4.7" 720p screens, I far prefer the crisper and more natural appearance that the non-Pentile screen affords with text.

In my case, the normal hardening of the cornea with age sets in, and my range of focus is reduced.

So for me, 720p non-Pentile and 1080p either way isn't a factor on screens of equivalent size.

My usual complaint is the over-saturation of colors on a lot of S/AMOLED displays. The SGS4 allows you adjust that somewhat and the Note 2 just doesn't seem bad that way to me.

So if the color balance is reasonable on the Moto X, I'd personally be looking at the difference between the 0.3" larger display on the SGS4 vs the potential battery savings on the Moto X.

So if the colors are right, I'd say that comes down to personal preference.

I'm insufferably pleased with the display I have now, so I'd lean towards the power advantage on the X, all things being equal.

And if your eyes are younger and you want uncompromising clarity, you want to be checking out the HTC One.

Can't wait to see. :)

If that picture is accurate, then even if the battery isn't user replaceable, it's likely going to be a whole lot easier/cheaper to deal with than if battery was even partially tucked under the motherboard.

I make a lot of fun of marketing, but it's not all evil just because, and the existence of that beauty shot is more than a little bit intriguing.

Not the least of which is the antenna placement shown.

The dual / MIMO active LTE antennas that everyone is on about are suggested to be at the top and bottom - a configuration shown by the One to make a lot of sense (no pun).

At this point, although I have a lot of questions, I really want to know how this thing sounds. :)

Yea I'm going to wait it out and see what the X brings on Thurs! Honestly I don't see myself blowing $700 on the GS4. Especially when the X is literally within arms length of a release and will only be in the $300-$350 range (Hopefully)

Haaaa...Well Thurs will come, and watch no release date be set! Hopefully no nonsense with sometime in the 3rd quarter, which I would bet means the end of Sept! If that's the case and no date is set during the press conference I'd just have to say Motorola and Google are nuts to go head on with Apple and the next iphone...Way Diff price points, but never a good idea to go fighting 3 headed monsters that usually win most of they're battles. August is when this thing needs to be pushed out!

Well the Verizon release date on the leak was for August 23, so I hope it is for then. I am hoping that it isn't September 25th, like in the widget on the leaked press shots.

Hopefully it is released in August and is 300-350. I will be all over it.
