Android 4.3 coming to Galaxy Nexus starting 24 July!

Based on the 4.2.2 update timeline, I'm hoping VZW users see an update by the end of August....
4.2.2: JB update
------------------------
4.2.2 was released on February 11, 2012
4.2.2 hits Verizon testers on March 2, 2013 (only 19 days! That has to be a record)
On March 4, 2013 a leaked version was posted online. (I installed it on 3/5)
4.2.2 begins hitting Verizon Galaxy Nexus phones OTA on March 19th, 2013 (36 days - a Verizon record I'm sure!)

I just dug into the details of 4.3 and found that Android 4.3 adds built-in support for Bluetooth AVRCP 1.3!!! Finally, native support for track data via bluetooth!

AVRCP 1.3 Profile

Android 4.3 adds built-in support for Bluetooth AVRCP 1.3, so your apps can support richer interactions with remote streaming media devices. Apps such as media players can take advantage of AVRCP 1.3 through the remote control client APIs introduced in Android 4.0. In addition to exposing playback controls on the remote devices connected over Bluetooth, apps can now transmit metadata such as track name, composer, and other types of media metadata.

Platform support for AVRCP 1.3 is built on the Bluedroid Bluetooth stack introduced by Google and Broadcom in Android 4.2. Support is available right away on Nexus devices and other Android-compatible devices that offer A2DP/AVRCP capability.

Looks like takju images are up too.

Hmm... I think I'll blame that on being tired (had a bad night last night), I should have noticed that.

So it is now the old dilemma; do I install the image and let it erase my user data or do I wait a couple of weeks for the OTA update. To borrow a theme from a TV ad, "It's my update and I want it now!"

Typical, I'm with 'three' network.

I'm with 3 UK and got the 4.3. update on 27 July.

Things I've noticed:

  • Overall the phone is quicker to navigate and respond to selections.
  • They've made changes to the layout of the camera settings and added some new options I think. Still lacks a silent mode and grid option though. The camera starts quicker than it used to.
  • Stock gallery cropper screen looks a little different.
  • Disabled apps now have their own category, instead of being moved to the bottom of the All category.
  • They've added Google Keep into the OS in 4.3.
I had one issue after updating, which was I couldn't download or update any apps in the Play store until I removed my Google account and added it again. Other suggested fixes that avoid this didn't work. It meant I had to set up my Google sync settings again.

  • There is silent mode - if you silence your phone before launching the camera. If you try to silence after launching camera, you will end up taking a picture with sound
