Email does not sync with android tablet

Hello,
I am unable to sync my gmail or go into the playstore. My tablet keeps saying that there was a problem with the network whenever I attempt to open any of the google apps. However, when I go onto google as the search engine, I am able to surf the web with no problem. What is going on? I recently changed my router to Netgear, but not sure if that is the problem or not since I am able to surf the web.
Can anyone help me figure what is wrong?

Hello katwoman, and welcome to Android Forums.

The Google account which opens the Play Store and Google apps is it's own "network" in the sense of a separate account with your own individual password, unlike the internet via wifi router which may or may not require a password ("key phrase," etc depending on type of encryption).

Have you activated the Gmail/Google account and set a password?
