I have a galaxy s3 and I am trying to set up a contact with custom ringtone. I have been able to do so with all my other contacts except one. I am a volunteer firefighter and receive text message from our dispatch center when we get a call as well as tone out on my one way pager. The text msg I receive doesn't come from a phone number rather a email address. when I try and set up the contact I cant customize the ring for when I get text. any help would be appreciated.

Welcome to Android Forums, firevoly. And thank you for your community service!

Those texts with email return addresses could be spam. Have a look here:

The Complete List Of Text Messaging Email Addresses | EmailTextMessages.com

If not spam after all, customizing those message tones would have to be done via a 3rd party app from the Play Store. Have a search in there. ;)

I got this and thank you for your service.

Install the free version of Light Flow. You can set up custom notifications for texts, apps, emails, etc. Best of all you can customize everything about them. From the sound they make, how often they have a reminder sound, how long they have a reminder sound, whether or not they show a pop up on screen, they can flash the screen on, customize the color of your LED, vibration, vibration reminders, etc.

It's one of the best apps for Android!

In this case, you can set up a notification for any text or email coming from the dispatch center (just set up the dispatch center as a contact as you normally would). Then you could, for example: have an email or text from them flash your LED red rapidly and play a custom tone as it flashes the screen and shows a pop up and vibrates your phone. And in case you are away when this happens, you can set up the reminder tone and vibration to repeat every 15-seconds (or much longer time increments) while the LED continues to flash red. Meanwhile, a text message from anyone else would be white and only remind you once with just an audible alert. And an email could be blue with no audio alert or vibration. The customization of all of this is up to you.

Start with the free version. It works for gmail, texts, missed calls, etc. If you like it, the paid version is inexpensive and works with a much larger group of apps (whatsapp, facebook)
