Help Droid Incredible stuck on white HTC incredible screen

Hey guys, my stepdad has the droid incredible for almost 3 years now, and yesterday when he went to go turn it on, it was stuck on the white HTC Incredible boot screen and won't do anything unless you take the battery out and turn it back on but it's still stuck on the screen. Any suggestions?

pull the battery... put it back in, press and hold the volume DOWN button, continue to hold it while pressing and holding in the power button till the phone turns on. You will then be presented with the Hboot screen. Use the volume keys to highlight recovery. Press the power button to choose it. You will then see a screen with a single red triangle on it. Press volume UP and power at the same time ( you may have to do it a few times). You should then be presented with a list of options in yellow. select the factory reset option using the volume keys and press down on the trackball (button at the bottom of the phone) to choose it. All data on the phone will be lost, except for data on the SD card; can even remove it before performing the factory reset to be sure.

and then what? ive gotten to the recovery reboot bs place but nothing happens after it wipes everything I get no factory reset although I do get a message that says E: invalid command argument. I think my htc is probably history
