The Case Thread post your case finds here!

For about the same price you look at the Portenzo cases. I like it because it gives the N7 a little style and you can pick your own colours (each case is handmade to your specification). I've dropped my N7 in the case a couple times with no issue.

Another plus is that it makes the N7 look like it's a small book. My sister had her Kindle Fire ripped off because it was in a tablet case. I think the Portenzo actually helps...

I'm looking to get a new case. I got my Nexus 7 2 months ago from Staples. I got the M-Edge case that they sold in the store. It's done ok. My main complaints is that is doesn't have easy access to the power/volume buttons. I have take the Nexus 7 out to use it. It doesn't have a wrap around jacket to fit it in, just a bottom sleeve.

I'm looking at the Finitie cases. Has anybody had any experience with them?

For some cardboard, felt, and vinyl, $7 is the right price.
My $7 case arrived today, and I am very satisfied.
It does not add any bulk to the N7.
I do not understand why it has a giant hole in the back.

Amazon.com: Nanum Google Nexus 7 Ultra Slim Fit Case (Gray) + Stylus Pen: Cell Phones & Accessories

Update after a few months, this $7 case was perfect.
Doesn't add any bulk. Sadly, it looks like it's sold out!
Looks like the Finitie for $9 is the next bet. Lots of reviews.

Update on my Poetic case,

One of the magnets fell out of the edge that holds the flap closed, and since there's a three year warranty from poetic, I emailed them about it. Here is the reply I got:

"Dear Buyer,

Thank you for the update.* We have continually improved upon this case and will be shipping a replacement from our most up to date batch tomorrow with the USPS tracking number: ********************* Also, due to the time and costs of a return, we have decided to make an exception and you are welcome to keep the defective unit as well. Please let us know if you have any questions."

I'm still very happy with the company and product :D

I've seen and read so much about the Poetic Slimline and MoKo ultra-slim lightweight (check that last one out, it seems much in line with the former), but haven't been convinced since both have serious flaws one way or another.

Hence, I'm going to try this one: http://www.amazon.com/Devicewear-Leather-Magnetic-Position-RDG-GN7-BLK/dp/B0093CB2HQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1374610469&sr=8-1&keywords=devicewear+nexus+7. It doesn't have magnetic closures like Poetic's and MoKo's, instead uses an elastic band to close the front cover; it does have a plastic back sell and front faux-leather (or vegan leather as they call it). The stand and type modes seem a whole lot sturdier than the other slim cases I've read and yet it keeps a small profile.

I'm still waiting for it to come, but once I have played with it a little I'mma let you guys know how it fairs.

Yeah I was lucky enough to pick up a 2013 Nexus 7 yesterday at Gamestop but looks like it'll be at least a couple weeks until some decent cases are available.

I wish there was a more specific way to search for the 2nd generation version so that it's not confused with last year's model which has different dimensions, even before taking the rear camera into account.

For the N7 2013, all I can find on Amazon is this:

Amazon.com: ASUS New Nexus 7 FHD Official Travel Cover - Dark Grey: Computers & Accessories

But it doesn't have a stand and screw them for $10 shipping, I'm just going to see if Best Buy or Staples nearby has something that will work to protect it until I can get a case I really want.

The "official premium" case looks pretty good this time. Looks like it's very similar to the smart cover for the iPads. It's listed at the bottom of the N7's page, but isn't accessible yet:

I got the Official Travel Cover for the original N7 last year and I found it abysmal. ANYTHING is better. No case at all is better. It's that bad. The premium case looks interesting but would be more interesting if it were actually available.

The Dodo cases are just too expensive for me. Some are half the price of the tablet!

It's going to feel like a long wait until the case manufacturers catch up.

Ya I agree. Google messed up by not giving the 13 an actual name. Hopefully a good case will come out soon!

Awesome, this is the same style I have for my first gen Nexus 7 and its great. It adds a bit more weight to the tablet than I'd like and the notches in the stand don't always give the optimal viewing angle, but I'm still quite happy with it.

Thanks for posting this, I just ordered one to use until something better comes along.

Dumb question, but does anyone know if a case would fit both the original and new N7? I'm just asking because my case will be coming a week or so after my new N7, so I'd like to use my old one for a bit if possible.

I realize that the speaker and rear camera holes would not line up.

Thanks!

i dont think so.. i have heard that the new one is thinner.. so i am going to guess that every thing is a little different in size. if you have a form fitting case, then the old case will not work for he new Nexus.

if you have one of those generic cases that use a rubber band to hold the 4 corners.. then it should be fine.

Mine certainly didn't. That was the first thing I tried. The new nexus is not only thinner but just a tad taller as well. I use a case with the little hooks that grip the corners and wot-not, and I couldn't slide it into the hooks at all because of the height difference.

Yes, the new N7 is taller by a couple of milimeters, narrower by about 6mm and about .1 millimeter thinner. The original cases won't fit.

I did find that the original Kindle Fire zippered carrying case I purchased for my OG N7 is just tall enough to allow the New N7 to fit and zip closed. Not a good choice for every day use, but it is good protection for carrying the N7 around and pulling it out to use.
