Upgrade fee question

*Edit* The fee will apply to customers buying a new device with a two-year contract. I guess that answers my question. Sorry for posting this without doing prior research!

If I upgrade a line on a share everything plan that is currently on month to month service. Will I still be charged an upgrade fee even though I'm not extending an existing contract?

The Rep said the upgrade fee applies because I'm extending the month to month service with a new 2 year agreement. but I'm not really upgrading since I bought the phone outright.

Any help input is appreciated, Thanks

I'd be getting the galaxy s4 at the discounted price, so I'll have to pay the $30. I thought the fee only applied if you were upgrading a phone previously under contract which my droid x2 wasn't. But the upgrade applies to any phone purchased at a discounted price by a current subscriber.

Both seem SO WRONG, that you have to pay VZN additional money to stay a customer. WTF is that??

I agree, It is a joke.

Just extra fees Verizon tacks on to make a little extra money.

Not too bad from a business perspective of it.

VZW has a little over 100m customers.

Let's say 30M of those were charged the $35 activation fee.

$1,050,000,000 just from this fee.

30M was just a random number I pulled for an example.

I go with Costco whenever I can. They can't avoid the ridiculous Verizon add on fees but they will try to tell you if there is a way to save money. The accessory pack also saves you a bunch. Plus most of the folks know a lot more than the Verizon store flunkies. I'll be upgrading shortly and I'm waiting for Costco to get in the phone I want.

Upgraded from 1 dumb phone to Galaxy S3 (wife) AND 1 HTC Rezound to Galaxy S4 (me) at BestBuy. The S3 was $50, the S4 was $100, BestBuy "price matching" a Frys newspaper ad. Pleased with both phones so far and BestBuy service was very good. I also had their 14-day exchange/return policy, didn't use. I will, of course, pay Verizon's upgrade "robbery" fees and suffer the reduction of my unlimited data - no matter, we're low data users anyhow.
