Root advice on rooting

hello all, i have been searching the net all day, and have found conflicting information about rooting.

to start off with i must stress in a total noob here, and have no idea what im doing, i have read a few guides, and some speak of running jelly bean on a wildfire S. then i read about different bits of software that i need, different roms, doing back-ups etc..

i am now more confused then before i started.

could someone please tell me what is possible, in really simple terms.

1. i would like to run jelly bean
2. i would to free up enough space to make my phone usable
3. is rooting legal?
4. how badly can things go doing this? can i kill my phone?
5. and finally i have seen 10's of different rom names, do they all do differant things?

Notice I've moved your question/thread to the Wildfire S "All Things Root" sub-forum. Also notice the three threads at the top beginning with the name, "Sticky" in red. Those are all regarding rooting the S.

I'd hang in there and read read read in here.. but make sure to not begin a root exploit until you fully understand all steps. It's a great phone stock, does not truly *need* to be rooted, so waiting while you learn how is not a waste of time at all.

Once it hits you what's up with it, proceed very slowly with each step; don't take chances. These All Things Root forums are full of threads such as, "I rooted now my phone won't get past the HTC logo at boot up, am I bricked?" and "Now what? I'm in a boot loop!" and "All I did was install the update and now I lost root," etc.

As Frisco says, read several times and make sure you understand what's involved BEFORE doing anything. I've rooted 2 Wildfire S phones using this guide:

without any problems, just be very careful and take in one step at a time and DON'T HURRY.
