Bad sim card or dying sd card are both areas I would start with. If you cab flashed, you flashed all the system and radio partitions, so you ruled those out. Try booting without the SD card first. If that doesn't work, take it to VZW and have them try a new sim card in it. If that doesn't fix it, then something hardware in the phone died.

Got new phone today but took your advice and went to VZ and tried new sim with old phone... it worked. Now I have to decide whether the keep it or the new one. My warrenty is over next month so maybe I should take the new one... decisions, decisions...

Dang. That sucks. I hate to say this, but maybe you should call them on a lemon and ask for a different phone.

Already tried that... they say only replace like for like

So get this...
I got new phone today but took your advice and went to VZ to get new sim. Put it in broke phone and problem solved. Yippee!

Then, just for giggles, I put new sim in new phone, rooted and flashed Eclipse nandroid (I was on Eclipse when old phone broke). Problem came back... can't send texts on new phone with new sim.

So I put new sim back in old phone (which was fixed due to new sim) and problem came back... can't send texts now on either phone...

WTF!!!!!!!
