I hate the HTC hero!

On a slightly serious note, I am bored with mine now.

I'm sick of waiting for decent apps to flood onto the market.

I have been eyeing the iPhone 3gs again...........but just KEEP thinking about all the things the hero can do that the iPhone can't and never will.

:(

I'd like Skype and some decent games but it's a small price to pay bearing in mind how lovely everything else is. I keep having a play with my wife's 3gs to reassure myself and I'm definitely still reassured:)

I know mate, I know. I've had the 3G and chopped it for a curve 8900 as it was letting down as a reliable phone.
Skype is available, I have it on mine.

More games please. I'm buying speedforge - not because I will play it a lot, but to support the guys that created it. We need more marketing and awareness.

I'd rather have a proper little compact camera any day, convergence hasn't quite got there with camera phones anyway. And as for the alarm, well I always stick my phone on charge at night so it is on whenever I need to use it as an alarm anyway.

I agree with the camara thing, however the charger ! being in the fire service and i have been to many fires that have started due to phone chargers on overnight, i will never leave mine on overnight. I only have it on when i am awake so i can see it / smell it if goes wrong or charge in the car

am i missing something, i am new to the hero, but where do you get all these additional applications from ? all you see on TV is iphone this and iphone that and in comparision the hero doesnt seem to do alot, or am i missing something somewhere on the net ?

Android Market - you should have an app for it on your Hero.

The Hero does *more* than the iPhone - like multitasking and proper widgets and stuff. OK the iPhone App Store has more apps in it than the Android Market but that's more to do with the hype within the media that the thicko journalists have fallen for.

Android Skype is another example of us being fobbed off with an inferior version of the iPhone equivalent (just like compass support in maps!) - it can't be used over wifi which makes it a waste of space for me.

Speedforge is cool - I've got that - 3d is great but we need more games that have a professional interface - too many of them seem home-made at the moment.

I don't think we will be Skoda - maybe TVR/Lotus as opposed to Porsche;)

Have you seen/tried "sipdroid"http://code.google.com/p/sipdroid/?

Chegs.

Yeah I know about sipdroid but that is not straightforward to set up like Skype - programs like that will just add fuel to any argument that Android is for geeks. We need apps that are completely equivalent to the iPhone in quality, ease of use and functionality.

Android has a good solid OS which will get better under 1.6 and 2.0 and thats not far away. So the battle now is getting more people to know its there and produce better apps.

The iphones reign as the all incompassing smartphone is coming to an end, newer android phones will lay waste to it on a hardware level, so the battle will simply be that of the apps war.

But google seriously need to get people to understand what an android run phone can do. like how intel made people aware from the intel inside adverts.

perception is key, the amount of people running around with blackberrys because it does email....get a data connection account and all major phones do email and push email on android using gmail.
