family plans worth it?

Are there any benefits to having a family plan over 2 individual lines? If we are both used to using up to 450 minutes, that's going to bump us to the 1400 minute plan, which is more than 2 individual lines.. either that or suck it up and try to use less minutes to save ten bucks..

Anything I am missing here.. for some reason I was under the impression that these were a good deal over having 2 individual lines..

Well if you don't use that many minutes it's worth it. It's also worth it if you want unlimited text. It's almost more worth it if you want to get more people on the same account.

Depends on how much talking you actually do.

For 2 lines there's not much savings. for more than 2 lines with little talking you'll really notice the savings.

We have 3 lines. But we are not on the phone all the time. paying 40 bucks + taxes and fees for separate lines ends up being about 150 bucks total.

We currently only pay about 96 bucks on the cheapest family plan.

Well, I guess it depends on what you need...for $10 more, you get 500 more min each month plus 10 friends & family numbers (not on vzw network) that you get unlimited calling to. If you don't use more than the 450 min each, save the $10.

Don't you also have to pay an extra $9.99 per line on the plan? So with 2 people, you're actually paying $20 extra per month due to the extra line fee? I mean, you get 1400 mins as opposed to 450 each, but $20/mo. is nothing to sneeze at...

450 mins for indiv is $39.99

1400 mins for family is $89.99
(Cost is $80 for pirmary and $9.99 for each additional line up to 5 lines total)

So essentially it is $10 more for a lot more minutes. Plus with 1400 family, you get friends and family which is unlimited calling to 10 phone numbers.

Also if you both have unlimited text, thats an additional $20 per line, but on a family plan it s only $30 total for all lines

My fiance and I are joining plans. She gets a little work discount, so she will be the primary line. Neither of us use that much minutes, we will be on the lowest minute plan, and neither of us have unlimited testing ($5 or $10 plans each). You can use IM apps for free messaging to save costs, too.

In the end, we will both be able to have smartphones (Incredibles!) for about the same price we are paying now, which is for one smartphone and one dumbphone. And it means she can stop asking me look stuff up on my phone and do it herself.

The only downside is you lose the early annual upgrade for the secondary lines.
