I have been using Nexus ROM on my SG3 thanks to you guys here. I am not I am thinking a change is needed. I would like to try out Paranoid Android

The instructions from the DEV are:

INSTRUCTIONS,

1. UPDATE RECOVERY
2. FACTORY RESET
3. INSTALL ROM, (Mirror) GAPPS
4. INSTALL FIXes (If NFC broken, & try both zips)
4. WIPE CACHE & DALVIK CACHE
5. REBOOT
PA 3+ UPDATES DO NOT NEED A FACTORY RESET,
BUT YOU NEED TO INSTALL GAPPS ASWELL.

First question is How do I go about backing up all my data? without losing my original back up of my stock Samsung SG3 I am using Philz touch 5 at present.

I would really appreciate and value your advice

How do you mean without losing your stock s3 data? Since you are using a nexus rom I imagine it's AOSP so you don't have any of your s3's original data anyway.

For the back up use titanium backup and back up your user apps. You can also do a backup of call logs, messages and data without it effecting the new rom. Obviously when you restore only restore them, if you restore system data it can cause problems.

And before you wipe do a nandroid just incase :thumb:

When I was flashing my SG3 for the first time, you guys instructed me to do a back up just in case anything happened. Therefore, I am assuming somewhere on my external SD there is a back up of my original Samsung software? If I do another back up will that write over the existing one?

Yes there will be a backup of your original ROM. Depending on where you wanted to save it, it will either be in your internal memory under /clockwordmod/backup or in your external sd card under /clockworkmod/backup.

You won't overwrite the existing one, it will create a new one. You can delete any backups you don't want, but always keep at least one just in case something happens.

Got ya, ok I will do that I will keepthe backs ups on the PC and keep at least one on the SD card. Ok I will back up data using Titanium and then back up my contents, calls and texts and then get back to you.

Is the Paranoid android link in my first post correct to use for international SG3? Also should I be using a specific kernal with it? I am looking for stability and good battery use.

We could put a tail on it and call it a weasel ;)

Near Field Communication. Its a chip in the battery for communicating with another device. Tbh ive never used it but if you do and it doesnt work with the rom just flash the fix

Thanks a lot for answering my questions and helping me out - It is amazing the support I have received. I am just about to flash the paranoid android ROM I will keep you updated with the progress. It is comforting to know that if I encounter a problem I will not be on my own.

Thanks

Hmm im not sure man. Bit out of my league sorry. Is the zip on your internal or external sd?

Holy mother of pearl what an experience now I know what it feels like to be in the bomb squad. Turns out my blimmin (excuse my language) SD was corrupt! can you adam and eve it.

I have installed the ROM but I haven't installed the GAPPS yet as I downloaded the wrong one thinking it was the up to date one when in fact it was for 4.3 :(

Ok, All installed and running ok, except for the fact I have a circle on the home screen that I can't get rid of. I think it is something to do with HALO? or something? I haven't worked out how to get Facebook notifications yet so I am missing messages sent to me. Apart from that all looks ok. I will sit down tomorrow and go through the walkthrough and see what I am missing. A big THANK YOU for your help, I really do appreciate your time and assistance.
